Bord na Móna Cloncreen 2023 Community Benefit Fund Community Group: St. Mary's Secondary School, Edenderry Project Description: Purchase of outdoor gym equipment St. Mary's Secondary School caters for boys and girls from Edenderry and the surrounding areas, such as Offaly, Kildare and Meath, making it a central connection between several communities that provides facilities and educational opportunities to many students. Funding was provided to the school to purchase an outdoor gym on their newly opened playing pitch. The purchases also included a variety of equipment, accessible for both able-bodied and students who require wheelchair access. The main objective of this project is to provide more opportunities for students from the community to participate in exercise, no matter their physical ability. The outdoor gym will be on the grounds of our newly opened playing pitch. The school would not have been able to provide these facilities without the funding. Commenting on the Funding provided from Cloncreen Wind Farm, St Mary's School stated: This Grant Award has made a fantastic impact on our community. It has provided a safe space for our students to exercise. It caters to all the students in the school but has had the biggest impact with our most vulnerable students. Students from our Autism class have got a lot of benefit from using it and as it is wheelchair accessible our students with mobility difficulties can benefit from it too. #sustainability #BordnaMóna #community #communitybenefitfund #Ireland #sustainable

New program gives kids control of their own school run Primary school students are being given a running start in 2024, as the NSW Government today announces a new $10 million Active Transport to School program to encourage children to safely walk, scoot or ride their bikes to school. The program will fund small projects in walking, scooting and bike riding catchments around public schools, making it easier and safer for kids to travel to school. It will deliver upgrades including wider footpaths, safer crossings and new street trees over the next two years. Data shows only 25 per cent of NSW school children currently walk or ride to and from school, down from 75 per cent 40 years ago, meaning less incidental exercise for kids and more traffic outside the school gates. The initial $10 million fund will widen footpaths, upgrade the quality of crossings and plant shady street trees in areas surrounding schools.Funding for individual Active Travel to School projects https://lnkd.in/gSVcSddn

One thing I learnt growing up as a boy child and I believe the same applies for a girl child, is how important our toys were to us. The care we had for our toys was making sure that when we play house, we would make sure our toys are clean and well taken care of. With the same analogy in my mind, our society, more especially parents, should ensure that kids still hold on to this habit when they grow up. I say this looking at how young and old people have normalized the idea of throwing away 1litre bottle of coke outside the window of an accelerating taxi with no care of the environment in their mind, the idea that it is okay to stick a chewed Chappies everywhere, the idea that a even when a sign warns you to not smoke in a certain area/zone and to use the installed cigarette-butt bins, no care is given. The idea that writing on walls and scraping off your name in a school desk seems to be normalized. Society needs to learn that we have to work with what we have and therefore must take care of it. I went to Setlhabetsi Primary School as a kid, in the deep rurals of North West in Setabeng Village and one of the greater things appreciate about that school was how our principal enforced principles that shaped me as a young person today. One of the things we used to do in our primary school was: Cleaning our own classrooms and toilets, participating in soccer and netball (either as an audience or player), taking care of our school garden, mowing the grass, and ensuring that every thrash is disposed off properly. Such principles of in a primary school, created discipline and shaped our community of Setabeng. Therefore, an investment to create such an atmosphere across SA communities, will be a greater investment for our future. My hope is that as society, when a project is handed over to us, either the project is a new tar road, new school, new community hall, and even a new clinic, we make it our priority that the standard of operation as well as the environment of that facility are well taken care of. This answers to when I said, we must work with what we have. I also hope that moving forward in the future, more consideration is given (either by government or private) into opening multipurpose centers and arts facilities like Mmabana in Mmabatho, Mahikeng, Westbury Youth Centre in Westbury, Johannesburg as well as community farming centers in our rural areas. #youth #southafrica Build One South Africa Isaac Sello Seitlholo (MP) Ganief Hendricks Cyril Ramaphosa #GNU #7thAdminustration #socialdevelopment Siviwe Gwarube Gayton Mckenzie

I rarely post and I almost never over share but I have something to say on this Giving Tuesday : ) What is your why? This is the question I've been asking myself lately. Why? Well, when you understand the why behind your actions, you simply make better decisions. Speaking of decisions, I've decided to go chase my why. In order to put my passion for running to a good cause, I've joined a charity - Team For Kids. This charity is sponsoring my spot in the 2024 NYC marathon and I'm asking for you to consider a donation (below). So WHY did I DECIDE to join this specific charity? 💥 This group empowers kids to embrace movement via fitness & running 👟 Movement is freeing 🤸♀️ Fitness builds strength 🏃♀️ Running brings endurance ❗ These results can build ones integrity & ultimately their entire individuality. How Do I know? It did exactly this for me... 🚸 As a child, we're told to chase our dreams. What we're not told is people will try to knock you down. 👯 As a tween, we don't take things seriously. Our most difficult decision is what to wear to the school dance? 🔞 As a teen, we think we're invincible. There's nothing in the world you feel like you can't do. 🧓 As a young adult, we think we know it all. We feel our experience has show us enough. 👪 And as a parent, you're figuring things out as you go. There's no way to plan the perfect schedule or know the answers. 🧒 Of all phases above, only one is responsible for shaping you. The Child phase. ❓ When I was a child, a boy asked me: "When is the baby due?" This question was a direct hit at my chunky monkey Italian self who loved ALL carbs. 🛑 Moving into my tween years, I pushed the limits of trying to drop the weight. One would say I took a unhealthy approach that I'm not proud of ⚖ During my young adult years, I learned you can engage with food and fitness in a very balanced way. Fitness and running bring a sense of clarity that I can't find anywhere else and I'm dedicated to the commitment it requires. ❤️ Now as a parent, I'm proud to answer the question that little boy asked - "when is the baby due?" Well, that baby was due in March of 2021 and I'm a proud mother of a 2.5 year old baby girl. I never want girls like her to ever feel as horrible as I did in that small but powerfully sad moment in 5th grade. And for that reason... 🎽 I'll be running the 2024 nyc marathon for me, for my daughter, and for all kids so they can see that anything is possible. 👀 Looking my daughter in the eyes and telling her to stop at nothing when it comes to chasing her dreams because even the most impossible, is possible, will be the ultimate finish line. 🤝 So that is my WHY. I'm asking you to consider contributing to a donation (below) so we can empower kids to live a more healthy lifestyle together. ❗️A post from our Director Afsana Lachaux Fewer pupils of primary-school age meet WHO minimum in countries where uniforms are the norm, Cambridge study finds. The research suggests that restrictive uniforms could be preventing primary school pupils, especially girls, from being physically active. It's 2024, and I can't believe that we're still debating skirts vs trousers 🙄 This latest research confirms what The Sweaty Betty Foundation has known all along. We know that clothing is a major barrier to girls being physically active. With our partner Sweaty Betty we are breaking down these barriers with the mission of empowering more women and girls to get fit and active. Over the last 2 years, we've donated nearly 10,000 bras 🙌 and our redesigned sports hijab will be launched on #iwd2024 📣 As well as listening to girls from all over the UK, the girls panel is helping us to shape our work with schools through our P.A.C.K framework aimed at tackling the 4 key barriers identified as major obstacles to girls getting active. Outdoor learning is crucial for a child’s development. It provides opportunities for hands-on experiences, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills that are harder to develop in traditional indoor settings. Exposure to nature enhances physical health, reduces stress, and improves mood. Furthermore, outdoor environments encourage social interaction and cooperation among children, which are key for developing emotional intelligence and social skills. It was such a treat to see some childhood friends! For parents, incorporating outdoor learning into their children’s routine can be a great way to ensure that their kids receive a well-rounded education. Ensuring children are socially prepared for the transition to Primary school is crucial for their overall well-being and success in their new environment. That is why our programme has a weekly character building component to provide them with the right environment, outlet, experience and support to take this very big step into Primary school with confidence. #characterbuilding #mentalhealth #emotionalwellbeing #primaryschool #playbasedlearning #afterschoolprogramme
Exciting news! Mosaic will be introducing the Zippy Friends’ programme by Partnership For Children from United Kingdom, a non-profit organisation that focuses on designing evidence-based programmes to equip children with life skills, to both the preschools and students at play academy! The emotional wellbeing is a crucial aspect of a child’s development, and both educators and parents play a significant role in nurturing these lifelong learning skills in their children. While social-emotional learning is embedded within the school curriculum (both during ‘teachable’ moments and lessons), we seek to enhance our children’s social-emotional competences through embarking on the renewed Zippy Friends’ Programme in 2024. Topics such as feelings, communication, relationships, conflict resolution and more will be explored in detail to help children cope with everyday difficulties, to express their feelings appropriately and be equipped with a wide array of strategies to overcome problems. With this programme, coupled with love, patience and guidance from the educators, we hope to empower our children to navigate the complexities of emotions and relationships, setting them on a path towards a bright future! Head Teacher at St. Ebbes Primary School. The purpose of St. Ebbes is to nurture wise, compassionate citizens with the power to make a difference, driven by our three core values: Curiosity. Courage. Connection.
Since reading Punished by Rewards by Alfie Kohn and numerous posts by Naomi Fisher about the negative effects of individual rewards on children, we have worked with children to create a weekly celebration that our community loves. It’s based on Brené Brown’s definition of Belonging and the Latin definition of Genius as ‘the attendant spirit present from one’s birth’ rather than the Renaissance definition which is widely adopted, as the preserve of the few. It’s simple. Each class shares which of our three core values (curiosity, courage and connection) that they have demonstrated as a team that week. This is followed by ‘Passion Sharing’ where children share anything that they are passionate about. We’ve had gymnasts, comedians, magicians, why wasps are better than bees, an acapella version of the history of the moving picture show, the sharing of Marcus du Sortoy’s maths games, musicians and much more. After their sharing, they sign the ‘Genius Ball’. Everyone who applies gets to share. We’ve cultivated a culture around this assembly and there is a code which creates a psychologically safe space, without risk of the shame that has permeated our education system and our society for so long, the shame that by makes us want to hide our light under a bushel. As time goes on, we are finding that children who may have been labelled as ‘shy’ are volunteering to share and we sometimes give them a little nudge of encouragement. I can’t describe how magical it is each week. It’s magical because it’s about celebrating individuals but not individualism. The children aren’t competing with each other, they are just showing their authentic selves. My blog describes what unfolded this week if you’d like to read more❤️. https://lnkd.in/gzfwDrhn
