In a candid conversation with my close friend, suddenly this topic about workplace and women in leadership popped up. As we continued to rant about leaders and enablers and how their decisions impact our careers and lives, he asked me, ‘So Surya who do you think is the biggest enemy of women empowerment?’ I was at the loss of word or ideas on what to say at first. So, I just chuckled and ignored it then. But it got stuck with me. And then today it suddenly hit me that it’s actually us- the WOMEN. It might not apply to all and I say this out of experience being on both sides of the world. Infact, majority of people want more women leaders taking over the reigns defined by men, but at the same time there are many women affected by the actions of these women in power making them the real ‘Unablers’. Except it’s not very popular subject like gender equality, me too or pay parity disputes and hence treated like a trivial matter brought up only in a peer-to-peer rant sesh. But truth to be told is that… Women who are meant to empower each other are now competing for more power. Who are meant to learn from each other are now finding pride in jostling each other out. Who should have each other’s backs are the ones badmouthing behind the back. Who should be the captain of ship navigating careers are on a personal sprint to win-at-any-cost. So yes, women who should be the enablers of women empowerment are also the real unablers. And this does not apply only to women in leadership but across the board, not just at work place but at your homes, in your everyday societal encounters, in your neighbourhood, they are everywhere. #UnablersOrEnablers #WomenInPower #WomenEmpowerment #OrIsItWomenImpoverishment

CELEBRATING WOMEN IN OUR WORKFORCE As we approach #WomensDay, we're shining a spotlight on the incredible women who drive our success. Today, we celebrate Sales Operations Team Manager, Chanté Christians, whose resilience and can-do attitude inspire everyone around her. Chante shares her thoughts on the power of having a strong role model, advice for young women entering the working environment, and what it takes to be a woman in a leadership role. “As a woman in a leadership role, it’s great to be able to draw from strong role models to guide decision making. My late mother has always been my inspiration. She was goal-driven and never gave up, even when facing cancer. Though her passing was tough, it taught me resilience. I strive to be as determined as she was, and her strength continues to motivate me every day. Having such a strong role model has shaped me into the person I am today, pushing me to overcome challenges and stay focused on my goals. My advice to young women starting out in their careers is: Know your worth. When you truly understand your value, you'll never settle for anything less than you deserve. I believe the most important quality for a woman leader is the ability to empower others. It’s about lifting people up, staying non-judgmental, and being humble – valuable lessons I learned when asked to step in as a team manager to provide maternity cover during a very busy period. It was a huge challenge at the time, but a real honor as it taught me so much about leadership, teamwork and the importance of prioritising career growth and development. I also learned how crucial respect and gender equality awareness are in creating a supportive environment. ~~~~~ Chante‘s leadership and dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace make her an invaluable member of our team. Let’s continue to celebrate and uplift the amazing women in our lives and our workplaces. Happy Women's Day to all! #WomensMonth #WomenInLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion #WomenEmpowerment #Leadership #PepkorPaymentsAndLending #PPL #Capfin #Tenacity
