A farmhouse in Trimingham, North Norfolk, hanging on the edge of a cliff due to coastal erosion is scheduled for demolition. The property has seen significant danger since late March of massive cliff collapse. This is no anomaly as North Norfolk is home to some of Europe's fastest eroding coastlines, with projections from the district council estimating the loss of over 1,000 homes to erosion in the next century. Erosion control measures including expansion of the Environment Agency-funded coastal protection schemes and the Coastwise Scheme aim to help affected communities transition inland. There are ongoing efforts to understand coastal erosion better and develop responses through research collaborations between the British Geological Survey, University of East Anglia, and Norfolk District Council. Despite these initiatives, there currently isn't a government compensation scheme for homeowners like that of the farmhouse.

📣 Don’t hate, infiltrate 📣 Stormwater infiltration systems are designed to capture runoff and help it to infiltrate or ‘soak’ into the soil and groundwater below. They come in many shapes and sizes, but most work by collecting and storing runoff above or below ground in a pipe, pit or vegetated depression that is either perforated or lined with sand and gravel to allow the water to slowly seep into the surrounding soils. This helps to minimise the volume of stormwater entering waterways, reducing downstream flooding and impacts on aquatic ecosystems and enhancing groundwater recharge. For more information visit waterbydesign.com.au. The Urban Stormwater and Erosion and Sediment Control Capacity Building program is funded through the Queensland Government’s ‘Investing in Our Environment for the Future Program’ and delivered by the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI). #wsud #waterways #resilience

Vice President, Climate-Smart Agriculture, Environmental Defense Fund - working at the intersection of agriculture & food, climate and natural climate solutions.
A new preliminary analysis by @Environmental Defense Fund looks at wetlands at risk of losing federal protections following a Supreme Court opinion. This opinion jeopardizes the health of millions of acres of U.S. wetlands – and now, we have an idea of just how big that impact could be. Learn more now 👉 edf.org/wetlands

Affecting highly valuable real estate in Coastal California, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and really all over the world, coastal erosion is a major problem. Not sure if this will end up being a part of the solution, but it seems to have promise. I most like that it relies on using the materials that nature already put into place. https://lnkd.in/guvCKjRS
