This Merdeka, I find myself reflecting on the deeper meaning of independence for Malaysia. While we've achieved political sovereignty, our healthcare system's reliance on foreign pharmaceuticals and technologies reveals a lingering vulnerability. In my letter to The Star, I explore how Malaysia can take steps forward—by investing in our own R&D and building a self-reliant pharmaceutical industry. It’s time we ensure that our healthcare system not only serves our people but also embodies the full spirit of our nation’s independence. True independence is not merely the absence of foreign rule but the presence of a strong, self-sustaining nation. It is the courage to build, the wisdom to innovate, and the unyielding will to ensure that Malaysia’s future is crafted by our hands, for our people. Let’s pave the way towards the creation of a civilisation that stands the test of time, together. 🌟 Reflecting on a Transformative Experience at the 2023 Nigerian Logistics and Supply Chain Industry Report Launch 🌟 I'm thrilled to share my experience from attending the recent Public Presentation and Launch of the 2023 Nigerian Logistics and Supply Chain Industry Report in Lagos, organized by ARC_ESM in collaboration with the African Centre for Supply Chain (ACSC). This event was not only enlightening but also pivotal for the future of pharmaceutical supply chains in Nigeria. Key Highlights: 1. Local Production Expansion: Strategic Opportunity: The shift towards local production will significantly reduce our reliance on imports. This will strengthen our market presence and provide a more stable supply chain. Increased Market Share: By producing high-demand drugs locally, we can capture a larger share of the market and offer more competitive pricing. 2. Investment in Infrastructure: Facility Upgrades: Investing in state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies will ensure we meet and exceed regulatory standards, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs. Quality Assurance: Enhanced infrastructure will guarantee our products meet the highest quality standards, bolstering consumer trust and satisfaction. 3. Conclusion: Attending this event has provided me with invaluable insights and practical strategies to drive continuous improvement in our supply chain. I'm excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to implementing these learnings to contribute to the success of our company. The "gangs" changed the brand from what the patient had been using as it was "cheaper". The patient now plans for own out-of-pocket expenses to get "pure stuff". Montana is confused with the label & concerned about #wellbeing & #HealthEconomics. For #levetiracetam in Malaysia, among brands in the market are Keppra GSK, Letram UNIMED SDN BHD, Torleva Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Levaur Healol Pharmaceuticals. The drug prices per tablet range from RM0.50-9.00. Better synchronization between hospital #administrators, #physicians, and #pharmacists with #patients is vital. There is no point in switching, prescribing, procuring, & dispensing to save costs short term if it will affect the patient's compliance.
