Family Business advice on sale, succession or scaling | Fellow Chartered Accountant | Non Executive Director
Is employee trust a two-way street? A recent survey revealed that 76% of Irish Business Owners believe it is essential to be trusted by their employees; yet, only 57% report being fully trusted by them. Although trust is often higher amongst family members within a family business, a fifth of Irish respondents admit that trust is low in certain familial relationships. This distrust is evident between next-generation leaders and current family leaders, as well as between family and non-family leaders. Why does this happen? Why does this trust gap exist? The most common potential trust-breakers revolve around: • Feeling the next generation is not 100% interested in the business. OR • Feeling they are interested, but aren’t quite up to the mark? How can we rebuild this trust, which will allow you to leave a lasting legacy? • Implement strategies, understand challenges, and create changes that may be required for the next generation. • Outline clear succession plans and pathways for next-generation advancement. • Embrace the adjustments that may be needed to foster trust and empower the next generation. To accelerate these efforts, businesses can leverage grants that support next-generation training and development without placing undue financial strain on current operations. We can help navigate the grant process and provide the expertise to rebuild trust within the family business. At WMC, we specialise in supporting succession and helping you rebuild that trust.

The latest Corporate Bodies post is out - this time from Mark Walton reflecting on his working history and how we have got to this point! https://lnkd.in/ezbp6k7M "Organisations provide a highly effective vehicle for collective action. The corporate form is seemingly ubiquitous precisely because it is effective, if not always efficient. But collective action also requires good relationship dynamics between the people involved; ones that allow everyone to act within their areas of interest and to use and expand their skills and ideas with some degree of shared purpose and coordination."

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗲. 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲. A sentence may be you heard few times from employees in the past who where put on an execution list. Because all the companies had an open door policy rule, no restrictions for employees to reach the managers and got to know about their issues after they escalated. I have reversed many of those unfair decisions after realizing the below: 1- Those employees were not given the right training to perform. 2- Not given the right support by their managers to perform. 3 - Not given the right tools to perform. Terminating people unfairly can destroy families. Put yourself in their shoes. My advice: 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀. #LeadershipMatters #EmployeeSupport #FairWorkplace #OpenDoorPolicy #EmpathyInLeadership #PeopleFirst #WorkplaceCulture #EmployeeTraining #ManagerSupport #EthicalLeadership #FairTreatment #EmployeeRetention #HRBestPractices #ResponsibleLeadership #WorkplaceEquity #GeorgeNElias #AskGogole #Gogole
