Excellent read with cold hard figures: current price gap for licensing property as training data vs direct-to-consumer use (streaming, socials): 0.1% vs 50-70%. We have a long way to go before genAI is anywhere near sustainable...

This Monday, my newsletter's main story is titled "$1 Trillion Budgeted for Generative AI: So Where Are The Content Dollars?" In it, I analyze the overall AI budgets for the major generative AI developers (and allocate what percentage of those budgets have been used for content licensing deals with rights-holders, based on announced deals). I also lay out a potential "3 Tier Licensing System" to get past the current litigation "friction" between GenAI companies and rights-holders (in other words, a real workable solution to smartly move forward for all stakeholders). I believe it's an important piece that you'll find interesting and informative -- and that pulls together a lot of data with objective analysis of it all). It's available Monday, but you can LISTEN TO MY PODCAST NOW in advance of it to get an idea of what's coming (generated with Google NotebookLM using my article as its source; and I confirmed that it's a comprehensive quality discussion of the issues and possibilities it raises). https://lnkd.in/gWvFgXwE SUBSCRIBE TO MY NEWSLETTER here - https://lnkd.in/gtsk8AH8 #media #entertainment #music #generativeAI #ai #artificialintelligence #business #tech #technology AI LA Curt Doty Andy Abramson McKool Smith Avery Williams

Great coverage per usual from The Ankler and Erik Barmack on the cutting edge of AI and media. Seeing Imagine Entertainment & Television and Winston Churchill in the mix makes me think we have come a long way from the “Roadrunner” days when audiences and critics were very on edge, and when producers lacked clear guidelines like those crafted by the Archival Producers Alliance. Generative AI Audio seems to be the gateway for the moment on how this new technology is reaching mainstream consumption, and in this case in a production model that didn’t have a negative impact on workforce. https://lnkd.in/gEZPqb58

Is YouTube breaking humanity's frame of reference? 🤔 At the 'Made on YouTube' event, the integration of Google DeepMind's Veo was announced, signaling the rise of completely fake videos on the platform. With YouTube AI-generated videos now being watermarked, the line between reality and AI is blurring. How will this impact people's self-perception as they compare themselves to increasingly unrealistic content? 🤯 On a brighter note, the feature for auto-dubbing in multiple languages is undeniably cool. 🌟 Shoutout to Andrew Barker for sharing this thought-provoking update! #YouTubeAI #CreatorTools #DigitalInnovation

Curious about the transformative potential of AI in the media industry? In the latest blog “AI: Risk versus Reward” by Radical Moves Ltd, Accedo.tv's Joe Foster reflects on his early experiences with AI technology and offers insights into its future impact. “We implemented some AI very early on to shorten the processing time and complexity for our clients to build their own [streaming] service. AI made a significant difference to the time they can spend producing a service like that by asking it to get or suggest metadata, tags and categories. We also used AI for imaging where we could take one image and create something like 15 or 16 different images within that at different crops.” “Where it gets questionable is when you start looking at people who are getting third party content [for recommendations], because now it’s about what’s the legal rights to use what you’re being suggested.” Read the full version here: https://lnkd.in/eVXFuj2j #Accedotv #OTTstreaming #AI
