Great read on Chick-fil-A's impressive growth - what a journey it's been since 1967! This fast-food titan has risen to become the third-largest restaurant chain in the U.S., and that's with fewer outlets and Sundays off! Their secret recipe? Stellar sales at $8.7 million per non-mall franchise annually. Chick-fil-A stands out not just for its numbers, but for its unwavering commitment to quality and customer service. Even with stiff competition from the likes of McDonald's and Popeyes, they've maintained a 45+% market share in the chicken segment. Definitely inspired by Chick-fil-A's strategic growth and consistent value delivery. They prove that sticking to your roots and prioritizing customer satisfaction can lead to remarkable success. Hats off to Chick-fil-A for their exemplary performance in the fast-food arena! #ChickfilA #FastFoodWins #BusinessGrowth

Del Taco was, surprisingly, crowned America’s favorite fast-food chain by USA Today late last month. While I still fall into the crowd that believes the numbers don’t lie and find it rather obvious that Chick Fil A is currently the country’s premier concept, I dove deeper to get a better understanding of what Del Taco’s growth and numbers look like. Here’s a quick breakdown: · The Mexican Chain currently has 600 units in 16 States · Primed for growth in the Southeast, Del Taco opened its first Mississippi location last year and has signed commitments in Texas · Del Taco signed 52 commitments in Florida in 2023, which would mark a 740% increase in footprint once these restaurants open. · Del Taco aims to be 90% franchised by 2026, following in the footsteps of Jack in the Box, who bought the brand for $575 Million back in 2022 · Item 19 in 2024 FDD reflects average sales of $1,630,406, median sales of $1,515,241, and the top unit systemwide at $6,100,496 for fiscal year 2023 (all numbers for Franchised restaurants only) While the volumes certainly do not back up the claim of being America’s favorite fast food chain, it will be interesting to track Del Taco’s growth over the coming years!

Some great news for a pizza chain many were worried about recently. Key Takeaways: - MOD was acquired by Elite Restaurant Group. Elite has a history of buying financially troubled restaurant brands over the years. - This comes after MOD was considering Chapter 11 filings last week. - The fast casual pizza segment has struggled post covid - most meals don't conform to the timeline of mobile delivery because the process is different than a Domino's, Pizza Hut, etc. - Year to date, 44 underperforming restaurants have shuttered, all company owned, and it’s not clear whether more will close. If you'd like a clear picture of your tenants success we have a subscription software that can track visitor counts and rank your tenant competitively across the state and country. Feel free to contact us to unlock additional insights on other brands! Sam Noe 972.755.5208 sam.noe@marcusmillichap.com John Paine 972.755.5279 john.paine@marcusmillichap.com

For restaurants, there’s pressure (and defeated acceptance) to raise prices, pull back portions, and cut service... But Pepper Lunch Restaurants is doing NONE of those things. Leadership (under Troy Hooper and Mark J. Bailey) is hitting on all cylinders. 🏎 They’ve have raised the grade of their beef (from Angus cut to Certified Angus Beef), chicken, and salmon. 🏎 They’ve increased the beef portion of their famous Beef Pepper Rice by 11%. 🏎 They’ve negotiated with meat suppliers to reduce prices (current franchisees have recaptured $80,000 back to the bottom line from this ALONE), and give us our product already cut - enabling franchisees to prep less and operate easier. 🏎 They’ve rearranged the back of the house to smooth operations and increase speed of service. 🏎 They’ve recalibrated the front of the house, so: (i) new customers are introduced warmly; (ii) returning customers can order without being slowed-down by newbies; and (iii) third-party delivery pick-ups don’t strain the line. All this - while prices stay the same, portions got bigger, quality got better, hospitality levels-up, and franchisees have a more predictable pathway to profitability (hey, alliteration). If you or someone you know is interested in benefitting from all of this, as a franchise partner - comment below or DM me! We're doing all this to grow wit the right people! Krispy Kreme is probably my favorite glazed doughnut as long as the hot light is on! How will it work within the McDonald's system, though? My favorite part about Krispy Kreme is the challenge of getting them. Living in the northeast, there are very few Krispy Kreme shops. The anticipation of eating the doughnut is more satisfying than actually eating the doughnut. I think the collaboration with McDonald's will be great for business, but it may ruin my relationship with Krispy Kreme. The good news is that my opinion is not everyone's opinion. What are your thoughts on this announcement?

Each time you buy a $10 burrito, Chipotle makes $2 in profit. Chipotle owns and operates all of its restaurants and is largest US non-franchised restaurant chain by number of locations. It is the 2nd largest restaurant stock listed in the US and the 4th largest by revenue. Each location costs around ~$1.2M to open and generates ~$2.8M in annual revenue and ~$600k in annual pre-tax earnings (20.6%). A fully ramped store therefore represents an impressive ~50% annual pre-tax return. Chipotle is so profitable that cash from operations funds all of its growth (read: no debt) and has bought back $1.73B worth of shares since 2021 (ending Q3 2023) all while growing almost 2x in the 5 years from 2017 to 2022. Chipotle is the only restaurant chain in the US (that I could find) committed to using only “53 fresh ingredients” without any artificial extracts, flavorings, or additives which dramatically increases its operational complexity but also raises its competitive moat. 👀 Curious to learn more? I just launched a new podcast called “Decoded” that is dedicated to diving deep into business models behind great companies. Episode 3 is out now!
