EU wind power surpassed natural gas for the first time, reaching a record high The report shows that wind and solar power generation continue to grow, and their combined power generation accounts for 27% of the EU's total electricity, reaching a record high. Among them, wind power accounts for 18% of the EU's electricity, equivalent to 475 terawatt hours and France's entire electricity demand. For the first time, wind power in the EU has surpassed natural gas and is able to meet all of France's electricity needs. #windindustry #windpower #solarpower #electricity #energyinnovation #componentelectronics #botrond #globalsupplychain #icsourcing #electricitydemand

In spite of the $100 to $200 per MWh subsidies being offered to wind and solar in US power markets, 2023 shows that the growth in new power generation from natural gas fired generators being added to the grid, grew by 9.5x the pace of new power generation growth from wind plus solar. Maybe these weather dependent technologies simply need more tax payer funded subsidies? Asking for a friend. #windenergy #solarenergy #energytransition #netzero #netzero2030 #netzero2050 #powergeneration #oilandgas #naturalgas #canadianenergy #albertaenergy #sustainability #geopolitics #abpoli #cdnpoli

NEW REPORT | The #WesternBalkans have enough prospective utility-scale solar and wind projects to generate 4x more electricity than from proposed gas-fired plants over their lifetimes. Not to mention, that by 2028, planned solar ☀️ & wind 🌬️ projects in the #WesternBalkans could generate 11 TWh—exceeding new gas power's 6 TWh and effectively rendering the dash to gas obsolete in the region. Dive into our new report to understand how the Western Balkans can reach its full clean energy potential: https://lnkd.in/eiZiasH4

UK electricity generation led by wind power: Wind energy has been a major contributor to Britain's electricity output in recent days. This is supported by data that was just made public by the National Grid ESO. On Friday, the data showed that gas provided 11.3% and wind supplied 56% of the total power produced. On Saturday, this pattern persisted, with wind accounting for 55.9% #Efficiency&Environment #electricityproduction #energybills #energycosts #energymarket #energysupplier #Finance&Markets #Gaspower #GBelectricitygeneration #NationalGridESO #netzero #offshorewind #onshorewind #powergeneration #Renewableenergy #Renewables #TopStories #windfarms #windpower #windturbines

2023 was a year of #cleanenergy progress 📈 According to American Clean Power Association (ACP)’s Clean Power Annual Market Report, more than three quarters of all new power brought online last year was clean power. 🌀 Other highlights in the report: ⚡️energy storage capacity nearly doubled 💨 16% of the US’s electricity is now generated from wind and #solar 👷 the development pipeline is up 25% over last year. What are your takeaways from the report? Link in comments 👇

Sales Engineer @ Fluence | Past - Mainspring, E3 | Building and scaling products for an efficient and equitable clean energy transition
💡 I found Heatmap News to be an excellent addition to my daily #energynews feed 🗒 . The articles are concise and relevant. Special shoutout to the Emily Pontecorvo for today's article on top 10 make-or-break projects for the energy transition "These 10 projects represent the spectrum of solutions that could enable a transition to a carbon-free energy system. The list includes vastly scaled up versions of mature technologies like wind and solar power alongside the traditional energy infrastructure necessary to move that power around. Many of the most experimental or first-of-a-kind projects on this list are competing to play the role of “clean firm” power on the grid of the future." https://lnkd.in/dTqvXxXS

With around 1,906 GWh imported through interconnectors from neighbouring countries, the UK continues its status as a net electricity importer, according to January figures from the National Grid ESO. Last month, with unusually warm weather coupled with strong stormy conditions, the disparity between gas and wind generation in January's electricity mix has narrowed. Although gas remains our largest source of generation with a 35.7% share, wind power accounted for 33.3% Additionally, zero-carbon sources made up 47% of the entire month's generation, peaking at 83% at the beginning of the month. #Renewables #UKEnergy #ElectricityMix

🔌 In 2023, growth in US power generation from #naturalgas was 9.5x that of wind and solar, combined. Embarrassing scoreboard for the zero carbon fairytale, the ‘increasingly competitive’ wind/solar crowd, and the forced energy transition policy wonks. Nat gas = foundation of present and future grid.

Within 2023, a 30% increase of the interconnection queue backlog was reported. Within the backlog approximately 2,600 gigawatts (GW) of generation and energy storage sought connection to the electrical grid. The projects seeking approval primarily involved solar, battery storage and wind projects. In fact, within the queue, solar accounted for approximately 1,080 GW, wind capacity consisted of 366 GW and 120 GW of offshore wind energy sought connection to the electrical grid. In efforts to reduce the backlog in the Interconnection Queue various organizations continue to seek solutions. For example, the Department of Energy (DOE) released the Transmission Interconnection Roadmap. The roadmap outlines methods to speed up the process of projects evaluated within the interconnection queue. Along with DOE, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) recently released a new order, Order No. 2023, to also accelerate the projects in the queue and decrease the existing backlog. Did you know that MAPSearch stores and tracks projects within the Interconnection Queue? Interested in learning more about our Interconnection Queue Dataset? Good news for the Nat Gas, Solar, & Wind industries! Data from FERC Form 714 shows grid planners expect nationwide power demand to spike 81%! FERC Form 714 is an annual planning report submitted by electric balancing authorities across the 50 states & DC. The main beneficiaries are likely to be the nat gas, solar, and wind industries which will help produce the much needed electricity in the USA.
