For each location and its hourly solar PV and #onshorewind capacity factors, the cost-optimal capacities for solar PV, wind and electrolysers as well as the need for flexibility options, such as battery storage or curtailment, have been determined." "In addition to the LCOH maps, the solar PV capacity share maps depict the optimal share of solar PV capacity in the total solar PV and onshore wind capacity combined. A value of 100% represents a system supplied by solar power only, 0% stands for purely wind-based hydrogen production. EU wind power surpassed natural gas for the first time, reaching a record high The report shows that wind and solar power generation continue to grow, and their combined power generation accounts for 27% of the EU's total electricity, reaching a record high. Among them, wind power accounts for 18% of the EU's electricity, equivalent to 475 terawatt hours and France's entire electricity demand. This global survey highlights a fundamental paradox - overwhelming public support for solar & wind yet massive primary energy production from fossil fuels. This disparity is illustrated by the first chart - which is from the report. Bank of America`s estimate (https://lnkd.in/gRai-eeG) for wind & solar plus battery storage is a function of storage capacity in hours. Actual prices per MWh for intermittents will rise rapidly as more storage capacity is added folks and by a large amount. 10 GW of wind and solar contracts to be awarded in 2024, this year, via the CIS. Giddy up. According to a recent report by Environment America and Frontier Group, the United States tripled its production of solar, wind and geothermal power in 2022, compared to 2013 statistics. On this scale, the country can power nearly 41 million homes with wind power alone and another 19 million homes with solar power. What a milestone! Statkraft Low Emissions scenarios are published 🙂 🕵♀️ Each year these scenarios serve as windows into possible energy futures, offering a glimpse into the potential outcomes of our collective decisions, policies and actions. In the latest edition of the Low Emissions Scenario, energy consumption has more than doubled between 2021 and 2050. Our belief is that 🌞 Solar and 🌬 wind power will provide most of the electricity generation needed to meet this demand, while displacing existing fossil fuel generation. In some countries and regions, the share of wind and solar will even cover more than 70% of electricity demand in 2050. https://lnkd.in/e32abhW3

Symbols matter - and we definitely need more symbols and celebrations to advance the #energytransition. And that's why it's such great news that the United Nations has declared 26 Jan as the international day dedicated to clean energy sources. 348 GW of renewable power capacity was added in 2022, driven by ☀ solar PV and wind accounted for 92% (!) of these renewable power additions (70% solar and 22% wind). Yet, to stay on track with net-zero scenarios (such as the International Energy Agency (IEA) one), these additions need to be accelerated by 2.5 times. Maybe 26 Jan becomes a day to take stock on the status of #renewables!
