So… if I am not mistaken, the Sparrows Point Container Terminal is currently the only operating container terminal within the Baltimore Metropolitan Area? As I understand it seized operations back in 2012 but there are efforts underway to reshape it into a 330 acre facility starting 2025? Looking at it on Google maps, I some container activity already taking place, also some crane equipment…. So I am curious if they manage to jumpstart a emergency temporary setup to release some of the immediate pressure for cargo currently stuck at Port Of Baltimore? Sure it won’t be able to take on the whole volume, but maybe some cargo designated as high priority could be handled going out, and of course shipments designated for the immediate Baltimore area could be handled coming in? I am rather curious to see if this might jump start their current timeline all together… Any thoughts on this? #thereisnobox #boxleslogistics

Oakland’s main terminal adds overnight shift to clear vessel backlog The nine-vessel backlog at Oakland International Container Terminal (OICT), responsible for handling over 70% of the port’s container volume, is expected to clear within two weeks thanks to the addition of a third shift. Delays were caused by factors such as weather outages and large vessel berths. Truckers have expressed concerns about increased gate wait times at OICT. Despite improvement efforts, OICT still experiences longer turnaround times compared to other terminals in Oakland. In January, the average turn time at OICT was 94 minutes, down from 103 minutes in December, while Oakland’s TraPac terminal recorded 74 minutes, Everport 49 minutes, and Matson terminal 53 minutes. The impact of last week’s congestion at OICT will be evident in February's turn time figures. https://lnkd.in/de_jDz9c

After nearly two months since the Dali cargo ship crashed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key bridge, the vessel was refloated and pulled free of the main channel. Our thoughts remain with the friends and families of the six road workers who lost their lives in the incident, and also with the ship’s crew that’s remained onboard for more than 60 days with no firm timetable on when they can leave. Baltimore’s bridge is expected to cost nearly $US2 billion and be completed by late 2028. The Port of Baltimore is among the top 20 ports in the USA by tonnage and number of containers handled, and the 10th largest port for dry bulk, so the disaster’s impact caused a ripple effect on top of those immediately impacted through to the state of Maryland (with the potential loss of hundreds of millions in GDP and value of goods and services) and globally across sectors like automotive, manufacturing and energy. As devastating as these events are, disruption often is the norm for global logistics and we do our best to stay on the front foot when it comes to communication and our commitment to service.
