After nearly two months since the Dali cargo ship crashed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key bridge, the vessel was refloated and pulled free of the main channel. Our thoughts remain with the friends and families of the six road workers who lost their lives in the incident, and also with the ship’s crew that’s remained onboard for more than 60 days with no firm timetable on when they can leave. Baltimore’s bridge is expected to cost nearly $US2 billion and be completed by late 2028. The Port of Baltimore is among the top 20 ports in the USA by tonnage and number of containers handled, and the 10th largest port for dry bulk, so the disaster’s impact caused a ripple effect on top of those immediately impacted through to the state of Maryland (with the potential loss of hundreds of millions in GDP and value of goods and services) and globally across sectors like automotive, manufacturing and energy. As devastating as these events are, disruption often is the norm for global logistics and we do our best to stay on the front foot when it comes to communication and our commitment to service.

🚢 Baltimore Bridge Collapse: Federal Channel Fully Restored June 10, 2024: Fort McHenry Federal Channel Reopens to Full Operation On March 26, 2024, the container ship Dali collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, causing the 1.6-mile long bridge to collapse into the water. The Port of Baltimore, which ranks ninth in the United States, handled 52 million tons of international cargo valued at over $80 billion last year. The accident resulted in the port being closed for at least a month, causing an estimated economic loss of $28 million to Maryland and leading to congestion and increased transportation costs at other East Coast ports, including New York. Since the collapse, crews under the Unified Command have worked tirelessly to clear the wreckage and remove the Dali from the Federal Channel. On June 10, the Unified Command certified the riverbed as safe for transit after removing debris down to the 50-foot mud-line. The full restoration of the Fort McHenry Federal Channel between June 8-10 marks a significant milestone in recovery efforts. As shipping activity increases, transportation officials, truckers, and port operators are collaborating to ensure that the port and the surrounding Baltimore area are prepared for the surge in traffic, according to a news release from the White House. 话题标签 #BaltimoreBridge 话题标签 #jctrans 话题标签 #logistics 话题标签 #Maritime 话题标签 #shipping 话题标签 #port 话题标签 #freightforwarders

The tragic collapse of the iconic Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore early this morning will have far-reaching effects on our already fragile supply chains, strained by pandemic-related and geopolitical issues. A cargo ship, Dali, lost power and collided with the bridge. This incident may disrupt a crucial shipping port for months. The Port of Baltimore, one of the significant trade hubs, managed a record 52.3 million tons of foreign cargo last year. Baltimore is also a primary port for agricultural and construction machinery imports, sugar, and gypsum and ranks second in the nation for coal exports. Our thoughts are with those impacted by this tragedy. It's crucial to strategize the best response to the disruption and prepare for potential logistical challenges for both cargo and commuters in the coming months. This is a major interruption which will create significant challenges on the US East Coast for US importers and exporters. #portofbaltiomore, #containerships, #imports, #exports, #oceanshipments
The recent incident at the Port of Baltimore has resulted in a significant disruption of maritime traffic. A Maersk-charted vessel, part of the 2M Alliance's TP12/Empire service, collided with a key suspension bridge, leading to its collapse and causing casualties and vehicles to fall into the water. This event has necessitated the closure of the port, which is a critical hub for container lines and the largest on the US East Coast for roll-on, roll-off cargo. The suspension of vessel traffic is likely to exert pressure on container lines, potentially affecting ocean service reliability and causing congestion at other ports due to diverted vessel calls. Despite the maritime standstill, the port's main container terminal, Seagirt, continues to process trucks. Seagirt is a significant terminal, having handled over a million TEUs and nearly 400,000 auto units last year. The Maryland Port Administration has confirmed that the suspension will remain in effect until further notice, emphasizing the severity of the situation and the ongoing efforts to manage the aftermath. #portofbaltimore, #containershipping, #imports, #exports, #maritime, #oceanservices

The collapse of the 47-year-old, 1.6-mile Francis Scott Key Bridge is truly a tragedy. For reference, according to Logistics Management, in 2022 our local Port of Houston ranked #5 with 1,896,711 TEU's and the Port of Baltimore ranked #12 with 502,089 TEU's. In 2023 Port of Baltimore came in at #11, handling a record breaking $80.8 billion of cargo. So what does this mean for our industry? Trucks are being processed within the Port of Baltimore marine terminals, but there will be a great deal of re-routing for a long period of time. Truck traffic is being diverted indefinitely, and cargo will need to be re-routed. As we see an influx of activity with imported goods arriving at other ports, on the ground logistics teams must be ready to mobilize. Wishing the families who have lost a loved one in this tragedy my most sincere condolences. As the Port of Baltimore rebuilds the freight logistics industry will do what we do best to limit supply disruption and keep business on track. https://lnkd.in/gNeKyx6X #FrancisScottKeyBridge #Logistics #PortLogistics #SupplyDisruption
