The company's process includes compounding, pallet or sheet creation, and molding into packaging through injection or thermoforming, with the final products decomposing in moist soil in one to two months. The plastic-free packaging is made with paper—compressed wet paper fibers—and Upfield’s new tubs are waterproof, oil-proof, and recyclable in local paper waste streams. Notpla, a UK-based seaweed packaging startup, has secured a £20M Series A extension to expand its operations into the US, replace 100 million single-use plastic items by 2026, and diversify its sustainable product offerings to meet growing global demand. Notpla is tackling the escalating plastic pollution crisis with innovative packaging made from seaweed and plants. Its products, including the flagship Ooho edible packaging and biodegradable coatings for food boxes, are designed to be recyclable and compostable, breaking down within weeks. The company has also developed products like disposable cutlery and laundry sachets, all free from harmful petrochemicals.
