Currently, there's a mapping task aimed at providing care and support where it's needed most: Since May 10, heavy rainfall has caused flash floods, floods, and mudslides in northern, central, and western Afghanistan. The provinces affected include Baghlan (the worst hit), Badakhshan, Takhar, Ghor, and Herat. According to #UN and media reports as of May 14, there have been over 330 fatalities, with more than 300 in Baghlan province alone. At least 2,000 houses have been damaged, and there is an urgent need for shelter, food, clean water, and medical support. https://lnkd.in/dF-hCjTu #data #openmapping #openstreetmap #hotosm

🚨🌧️ #MonsoonSeason hits #Myanmar Over 31,000 people evacuated because of floods in #Kachin state and the Sagaing, Magway, and Mandalay regions up north. Info on #humanitarian needs is limited; homes, roads, and croplands are destroyed or damaged. This disaster likely spikes urgent needs for shelter, non-food items (NFI), and food security. Plus, it's wreaking havoc on access to WASH infrastructure, health services, and local livelihoods. 🌊🏠🚑 #Floods #Crisis #ReliefNeeded 🔍 Dive deeper into the crisis with ACAPS' latest analysis: https://lnkd.in/ea4i4xYm

Floods EWS in Ethiopia #Ethiopia is affected by several hazards mainly drought and floods. And #climatechange is and will continue to increase the number and intensity of extreme weather events leading to more disasters. Through the years, #PeopleinNeed in Ethiopia has been responding to floods through its emergency programs. Now, we also want to act before a disaster strikes by supporting Early Warning Systems and #AnticipatoryAction. The last couple of weeks, we have been conducting an assessment to better understand EWS initiatives in country, especially for floods. Our aim is to support the Ethiopia EWS Roadmap and help to achieve #EW4All and coordinate with existing #EWS initiatives in country. We presented EWS1294, an initiative developed by People in Need Cambodia (អង្គការ ភីផលអិននិត) that raised great interest among the stakeholders met in Ethiopia. Thanks to Czech Republic Embassy in Ethiopia and WMO for supporting our assessment by introducing our team to the relevant actors. The scale of natural disasters in the country is widening every day as the toll of destruction and injuries increases. There is alarming news of new floods in Ghor, Badghis and Herat, which comes after the devastation wrought by floods in Baghlan province. To save lives and reduce the suffering of survivors, we need to use all available facilities and opportunities. The floods have destroyed so many houses, farms, gardens, and roads that the destruction and death is almost unprecedented in recent history. After the immediate loss, large populations are left to suffer, with many homeless and untold numbers facing death due to illness, exposure, and lack of proper medical care. The recent flash floods in Bangladesh, the worst in three decades, have left a devastating impact across eight districts in the eastern and southern regions. Over 3 million people are affected, with thousands displaced and seeking refuge in communal shelters. The relentless monsoon rains, compounded by upstream water surges, have wreaked havoc on homes, farmlands, and infrastructure, cutting off electricity, and disrupting communication and transportation. This unprecedented disaster underscores the urgent need for coordinated relief efforts. The Bangladesh government, BRAC, and international organizations are on the ground, providing emergency aid, food, and shelter, but the challenges are immense. The situation remains critical, with further rainfall expected to exacerbate the flooding. As a community, we must rally together to support those affected. Now, more than ever, is the time for solidarity, action, and compassion. #BangladeshFloods #DisasterRelief #ClimateCrisis
