🚨🌧️ #MonsoonSeason hits #Myanmar Over 31,000 people evacuated because of floods in #Kachin state and the Sagaing, Magway, and Mandalay regions up north. Info on #humanitarian needs is limited; homes, roads, and croplands are destroyed or damaged. This disaster likely spikes urgent needs for shelter, non-food items (NFI), and food security. Plus, it's wreaking havoc on access to WASH infrastructure, health services, and local livelihoods. 🌊🏠🚑 #Floods #Crisis #ReliefNeeded 🔍 Dive deeper into the crisis with ACAPS' latest analysis: https://lnkd.in/ea4i4xYm

The situation described is deeply concerning. The heavy rains and severe flooding across East Africa, exacerbated by El Niño, are affecting vulnerable populations significantly, especially those already displaced in countries like Kenya, Burundi, Somalia, and Tanzania. This highlights the urgent need for coordinated disaster response and robust support from both local governments and international organizations. Additionally, it's crucial that African nations receive financial support to mitigate climate change and enhance their resilience against such natural disasters.
🚨 Heavy rains and severe flooding triggered by #ElNiño are sweeping across East Africa. In Kenya, Burundi, Somalia and Tanzania, displaced people are among the hardest hit by the floods. https://unh.cr/663896230

One year ago, huge floods in Pakistan destroyed people’s lives. This is #LossAndDamage caused by the #ClimateCrisis. People are in the process of slowly rebuilding their homes and livelihoods, gradually beginning to harvest crops. But communities urgently need more support. This funding must come from those who pollute the most. We need #ClimateJustice. We need to #MakePollutersPay. Add your voice: bit.ly/42SwKPf

Pakistan faced a climate induced disaster of unprecedented nature in 2022. Countries contributing the least towards the global carbon emissions are the most vulnerable to disasters like these. #ClimateJustice is all what we demand! An interview in ekattor television to talk about flood situation in Bangladesh. At present, water is receding in Teesta Brahmaputra rivers. Considering forecasts from FFWC, BWDB and CWC, there is little chance of floods for the next 7 days. However, we need to be always prepared during monsoon season for any such type of extreme events. https://lnkd.in/gQbVe5c6

Floods EWS in Ethiopia #Ethiopia is affected by several hazards mainly drought and floods. And #climatechange is and will continue to increase the number and intensity of extreme weather events leading to more disasters. Through the years, #PeopleinNeed in Ethiopia has been responding to floods through its emergency programs. Now, we also want to act before a disaster strikes by supporting Early Warning Systems and #AnticipatoryAction. The last couple of weeks, we have been conducting an assessment to better understand EWS initiatives in country, especially for floods. Our aim is to support the Ethiopia EWS Roadmap and help to achieve #EW4All and coordinate with existing #EWS initiatives in country. We presented EWS1294, an initiative developed by People in Need Cambodia (អង្គការ ភីផលអិននិត) that raised great interest among the stakeholders met in Ethiopia. Thanks to Czech Republic Embassy in Ethiopia and WMO for supporting our assessment by introducing our team to the relevant actors. Currently, there's a mapping task aimed at providing care and support where it's needed most: Since May 10, heavy rainfall has caused flash floods, floods, and mudslides in northern, central, and western Afghanistan. The provinces affected include Baghlan (the worst hit), Badakhshan, Takhar, Ghor, and Herat. According to #UN and media reports as of May 14, there have been over 330 fatalities, with more than 300 in Baghlan province alone. At least 2,000 houses have been damaged, and there is an urgent need for shelter, food, clean water, and medical support. https://lnkd.in/dF-hCjTu #data #openmapping #openstreetmap #hotosm

#GobezEthiopia What causes floods in cities? - which part is nature and which part is l engineering? -- The floods in Awas and Addis are caused by substandard engineering. Good engineering in public works, drainage, and sewer systems. may remove flooding problems.

My heart and prayers go out to everyone affected by the floods in Kenya. Our country and leadership need to do better. Below is a video of the Garissa- Madogo stretch of the road. Floods have cut off entry and exit to Northeastern part of the country, towns are submerged, and yesterday over 30 people lost their lives after a boat they were using capsized.
