Poverty hasn't been addressed in this pre-election period yet. And it could have been - and it should have been. If the party leaders aren't yet speaking about it, and the manifesto writers aren't yet writing about it, then the next step is to put the prospective parliamentary candidates on the spot. Now, we can - and should - do that graciously. But also firmly. Poverty can, and must, be ended. The problem is well understood - the policy solutions are well tested - the public will is there, and growing. The ONLY thing between today - with 1 in 10 people food insecure, with 7 million unable to afford the essentials, with 1 in 2 Christians Against Poverty clients considering or attempting suicide before coming for free debt help... - and the tomorrow where people & communities can be freed from the intolerable burden of poverty & problem debt, no longer struggling to survive but free to thrive together... is the political will. Write to your candidates today. My team and I have made it dead easy for you. Ask one of the three questions we've curated in partnership with people experiencing poverty today. www.capuk.org/ppc Do it now. Share it with your friends and family and neighbours and colleagues and people on the bus and that guy at the pub and the girl in the chip shop....
Write to your local Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs)

Affordable housing is a key issue in Europe's cost-of-living crisis. Here's a breakdown of the major EU Parliamentary Groups' positions on housing and homelessness. Don't forget - Sunday's polling day!
🗳️ With the EU elections around the corner, FEANTSA has analysed the manifestos of the main European parties, focusing on a number of key issues including homelessness, housing and energy poverty. On any given night, at least 895,000 people are homeless in Europe. As one of the most extreme forms of poverty, combating homelessness should be at the forefront of the election agenda this June. We've been through a tough period with big price shocks that have really changed our economy. Unfortunately, these changes have pushed more people into financial hardship. UK Government policies continue to entrench poverty and inflict unnecessary misery on millions. The truth is there has been a downward trajectory since 2018, and unless the government takes serious action deep inequality risks becoming hardwired in as our ‘new normal’. It is time for a human rights response to poverty and inequality. Read our joint op-ed from Jess McQuail and Olivier De Schutter in The Big Issue https://lnkd.in/eMAwaDzu

In recent years, we have observed worsening financial insecurity in addition to widening and deepening poverty in the UK. Decisions announced in the #SpringBudget are critical especially for those of us on the lowest incomes and in communities worst impacted by financial shocks. #Budget2024 #financialsecurity4all
