Today, we held our election for the Bracknell constituency in the UK Parliamentary election. Most people don’t see the vast amount of work that goes into staging an election. We’d like to thank our elections team for all their hard work over the past few months. Whether this is answering residents’ queries, setting up the polling stations, appointing poll clerks, or providing support for the team on the ground today, they have been fantastic. There will be no rest, as the verification is currently ongoing and the count begins straight after, but we’d like to thank them for everything they are doing.

Today, I testified before the House Elections & Campaign Finance Subcommittee of the Tennessee General Assembly on House Bill 2294, a bill to reduce the amount of time voters have leading up to Election Day to request an absentee ballot and exercise their right to vote. I offered some solutions that, if added to the existing bill, would better address the issues with Tennessee's absentee voting system: Watch my testimony: https://lnkd.in/ezS4udrc

While most people are giving a lot of attention to the Presidential election, I would like to encourage you to pay attention to the 435 Congressional races being held across the country. Arguably, the map below represents a version of reality that many “experts” believe: The vast majority of the 435 elections are NOT very competitive. It appears that a total of 414 (207+207) of the 435 Congressional races are relatively lopsided and are not really very much in doubt. These races are evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.. BUT PAY ATTENTION. https://lnkd.in/grMcrgwX

We naturally (and understandably) are usually most curious about elections where there is the most competition between the Republican and Democratic Parties. Yet it can be just as interesting to see where there has been a lack of election competitiveness and how it came to be. This series of posts dives into where the longest droughts for both Democrats and Republicans are in winning various offices, along with contextual information regarding these streaks. Today's post is part 4, looking at where Republicans have struggled the longest to win US Senate seats. Part 5 will shift to the US House and states where Democrats have gone the longest without wining the majority of a state's delegation to the US House. #politicalscience #2024elections #ussenate #uspolitics
