Excited to share our latest paper in Advanced functional materials, from the Sathish Ramakrishnan lab, on a rapid way to isolate highly pure #extracellularvesicles using photosensitive nanoprobes. #exosomes Why focus on size specific sorting of #EVs? Different sizes often mean different roles in cellular origin and even disease, yet isolating them while keeping them in their native form, free from non-vesicular particles, has been a challenge... until now! Major Finding #1: Our photosensitive nanoprobes can isolate EVs directly from complex biological media in under an hour, achieving high purity and efficiency. Our method provides a rapid, scalable solution for EV isolation Major Finding #2: We've devised a simple way for size-specific isolation with our approach. This allows us to enrich specific EV and synthetic vesicle subpopulations and retain them in their near native form. #sizesorting Major Finding #3: Our method outperforms traditional antibody-based techniques by capturing the entire EV population across various cell lines. Unlike methods that target specific markers and miss relevant EVs, we ensure no vesicle is left behind. #ComprehensiveCapture Major Finding #4: In our #Alzheimers model using N2a cells, we underscore the necessity of isolating the full spectrum of EVs for accurate biomarker analysis. Protein biomarkers predominantly found in a unique EV subpopulation and only contained minimal exosomal tetraspanin markers. This cost-effective approach yields ihMSCs with superior bone regenerative and immunosuppressive properties compared to traditional monolayer cultures.
