This is really important. Building science is not just for energy nerds. Having a good understanding of how building assemblies work is critical to ensuring a new home is not only energy efficient but also healthy, comfortable and durable.
"Many builders and carpenters haven’t embraced the high performance mindset yet, but here’s the truth: You can’t build to Vermont’s Energy Code or achieve net-zero without understanding building science." -SEON Understanding building science is crucial to prevent costly problems like mold and to ensure energy-efficiency and indoor air quality. Vermont's Legislative "Building Energy Code Study" Sub-Committee just released a report stating the importance of educating builders on building science, and recommended the development of a state-recognized builder certification. Unity is a part of Vermont's Sustainable Energy Outreach Network (SEON) who has since assembled a coalition to advance this voluntary builder certification effort. ⚡ Energy Efficiency: New Guidance for Traditonal Buildings 🏛 The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage published a guidance document called ‘Improving Energy Efficiency in Traditional Buildings’ which aims to provide clear and robust advice to specifiers and installers, while also being accessible to a wider audience.
