African World Heritage Day is designed to promote sustainable development in order to safeguard the culture for the future of the continent.. Its aim is to promote and celebrate the fantastic heritage and culture that the Continent of Africa possessess through its communities and people. Africa has numerous threats that other continents around the world do not have, from Climate Change, Civil unrest and instability to poaching, many wonders in Africa are at risk of disappearing. This day is used to highlight how important Africa is and that its value needs to be protected at all costs.. In part, it is a recognition of the fact that Africa is underrepresented on the World Heritage list. However, a lot of the properties which have made the list are in danger of destruction of climate change, and uncontrolled development.
The future of our shared heritage includes the future of World Heritage in Africa! Today on African World Heritage Day, learn more about UNESCO’s work to safeguard our irreplaceable heritage in Africa! https://lnkd.in/eXJXRaBS #WorldHeritage #ProtectHeritage

After witnessing the iconic #devuelvanelmoai campaign unfold online, I knew I would eventually write about it in the context of the growing decolonial movement. It's been so thrilling to watch the momentum for decolonisation increase over time. Read my article to find out more about the movement - and what repatriations mean for it - below ⬇️
"The housing of culturally significant objects in foreign museums or collections is a highly visible and inflammatory practice, and functions as a denial of the damage done by colonial powers." Latin America Fellow Hannah Hains highlights a regional push for repatriations and encourages its uptake by former colonial powers to help restore cultural heritage and reconcile with former colonies. It was true in 1960 when Patrice Lumumba said it and it remains true even today. It is precisely for that reason that the scramble for Africa accelerated in the last quarter of 19th century. It is reported that at the time, the colonisers were driven by economic, religious, and "strategic" interests. At the time of the Berlin conference in 1884, a lot of the minerals now found on the African continent had not been discovered. This was true even at the start of the independence of some of the African states in the late 1950s. Where some of minerals may have been known, they may not have been strategic or of huge economic significance. Lumumba's vast country, the DRC has a lot of minerals, including coltan which is used in electronic goods, in the northeast. Is it a coincidence then that the conflict in the DRC is centered around that area? Major economies need those important minerals for modern digital gadgets. It is therefore in the interests of those powers to ensure the central government in the capital Kinshasa is weak. It is weak because it has no control over large parts of the country mainly in the east and northeast. Those regions are only accessible by flight and of course that suits those who are looting the resources there as they fly them out without going via Kinshasa. No revenues flow to the central government. As Lumumba said, those powers will do anything to maintain their hold on the resources of the continent. Initially, the partitioning of Africa was a "divide and rule" scheme. Now the major powers will divide states to enable ruling over their resources. As was the case during enslavement of Africans, there are collaborators and enablers on the continent facilitating this looting. These enablers masquerade as leaders who benefit from the looting. You know where they bank their loot? You guessed right. The proceeds for these leaders are banked in the capitals of the erstwhile colonisers, the same people who are looting the resources today. Slavery was made easier by the African collaborators. The looting today is facilitated by enablers too. Very sad.
“The colonialists care nothing for Africa for her own sake. They are attracted by African riches and their actions are guided by the desire to preserve their interests in Africa against the wishes of the African people. For the colonialists all means are good if they help them to possess these riches”. Patrice Lumumba speech at the All-African Conference in Leopoldville August, 1960.

Did you know? "Today, more than 40,000 objects from Cameroon are kept in public museums in the Federal Republic of Germany. This is the largest stock worldwide. Since the German colonial period 1886-1916, they have been stored in the storerooms of institutions that kept them, virtually unpublished and unknown". Mind-blowing right? We can go on and on, but then what is the way forward? More details on this statistics can be obtained in "Atlas of Absence, Cameroon's Cultural Heritage in Germany". There is an urgent need to redefining Africa and claiming her heritage. #AfricanHeritageMatters

Each war comes with high cost. One of devastating effects of World War I was immense population loss: Over 9 million soldiers and 5 million civilians. Today, we need to learn from the past - more than ever - to build a better future. Our #Interreg GOV4PeaCE project seeks to honor this history. It unites countries to innovate in preserving and utilising war heritage. Their innovative museum concepts and cross-border routes aim to drive future socio-economic growth while remembering the costs of war. #cooperationiscentral to preserve history for a brighter future. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dz5He3ar #WorldPopulationDay #GOV4PeaCE #ProjectThursday Fundacija Poti miru v Posočju ZRC SAZU – Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts PromoTurismoFVG VeGAL Eastern Venice LAG (Local Action Group) Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra

As we continue to witness the ongoing struggle of the Palestinian people, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the immense suffering and injustice they have faced for far too long. The people of Palestine deserve a place of their own, where they can live with dignity and freedom. For decades, the Palestinian people have been subjected to occupation, displacement, and violence. They have been forced to live in refugee camps, with limited access to basic necessities like healthcare, education, and employment. The destruction of their homes, communities, and livelihoods has been devastating. The suffering of the Palestinian people is not just a matter of numbers or statistics; it is a human tragedy that demands our attention and action. It is a reminder of the importance of promoting peace, justice, and equality in our world. As we strive for a more just and peaceful world, I believe that Palestine needs a place of their own. A place where they can be free from occupation, free from fear, and free to build their own future. A place where they can live in dignity, with equal rights and opportunities. I believe that this is not just a Palestinian issue, but a human rights issue that affects us all. It is our collective responsibility to support the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and self-determination. Let us stand together in solidarity with the Palestinian people, and demand that their rights be respected and protected. Let us work towards a future where Palestine is recognized as a sovereign state, and its people are able to live in peace and prosperity. #PalestineDeservesJustice #PalestinianRights #FreePalestine #HumanRights #JusticeForPalestine

THIS IS LAST HOPE FOR GAZA In the name of humanity to whosoever this post reaches should sent this post to P.M. and President of his country and also to news papers and TV's. After thorough analysis I realised that there are two basic and fundamental structural defects in the constitution of UN which are 1. Veto Power System for the permanent members of the security council of UN. Since there is a body of all stakeholders in the form of General Assembly wherein all member- countries of the UN are represented there is absolutely no need of Security Council to accept or reject the resolutions passed by General Assembly. As such Security Council should be dissolved forthwith. 2. All member countries of UN are not signatory to the Rome statute consequently some countries are not under the International Criminal Court (ICC) whereas all the member countries have to be under the jurisdiction of ICC so that peace prevails in the world. . Due to these defects America has made a mockery of the UN as it is reduced to a puppet in the hands of the America. Consequently America with some allies have invaded several Muslim countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya and looted these countries then leaving these countries after the loot is complete. Presently America with the help of Israel (both countries are not under the jurisdiction of ICC) is demolishing, cold blooded mass murders, devastation, destruction , displacement, ethenic cleansing, murder especially of children and women and genocide and the whole world including the UN have to be mute spectators of all this and nobody has the powers to question them because of these defects in the constitution of UN. More than seven decades have passed by but the above-mentioned defects in the constitution of UN were not rectified. Non-rectification of these defects has created a very grave situation as instead of peace maintaining organisation UN became a weapon of blackmailing and means of invading and looting the rich countries by some countries which were having the veto power also besides these countries were not signatory to the Rome statute consequently these countries were not under the jurisdiction of ICC. As the result these countries became law per se and virtually became terrorist countries of the world because they were not answerable to any forum for whatever they do. They invaded and looted several countries so much so they created terrorist groups also. Now the climax of lawlessness has reached in Palestine where total devastation, destruction, cold blooded mass murders, genocide, ethenic cleansing, kidnapping and rape of innocent and unarmed civilians is being done and the whole world including UN have to be mute spectators because of the basic and fundamental defects in the constitution of UN have not been rectified. This is the highest time these defects are rectified by the General Assembly. Let General Assembly wake up after decades of slumber and rectify the defects as proposed above..
