There are many things to consider when designing and preparing packaging design for retail products and my bullet points below do not in any way cover it all. Walking around in especially supermarkets and other food stores we are met with an array of products on the shelves and unless we are actively seeking to try out new food brands, we often shop out of habit and buy the brands we know and trust. BUT - if they're out of stock one day, we have been disappointed with the quality, the store has re-arranged its shelves, or the store is specifically promoting a new product - THEN we might notice a new product and IF the packaging design appeals as well as the price, we might take a chance and buy it. #packagingdesign #retailpackaging #graphicdesign

When designing the packaging for this coffee brand, I chose to break conventional layouts and create something different. And here's why: As a brand planning to sell its product in retail, one of my first considerations was how this would look alongside all the other coffee brands on the shelf. After some research, it became clear that a lot of brands are using the same layout, some with very small variations and a lot of them using the same table-like format. (Although, it has been amazing to see more brands come on the shelf recently, like Grind | Certified B Corp, using minimal or bold designs as a way to stand out). The packaging design I created for this brand not only breaks away from conventional formats but also puts the coffee growers and their farms at the centre of the pack. This allowed us to be confident that the packaging would stand out on the shelf and celebrate the farmers at the same time.
