A Note from the CEO, Vinnie Polito As I write this note, we are 11 weeks from the conference and registration is running 10% ahead of 2023. We just made some minor tweaks to the conference program today and I’m legitimately excited for the blend of networking and content we have this April. I feel like 2024 will have plenty of the highest-rated session areas you’ve seen in prior editions, but the programming will extend and push us into new areas that have been suggested by the members and acted upon by leadership. 2024 has started exceptionally well for our members. There have been many strong events this January already and several more taking place over the next couple of weeks. We will be covering a few of these over the next few notes from me in February. We’ve also had a few personnel moves taking place in our membership base and I’m excited to see some big achievements in the next few months. Our SIG (Special Interest Groups) leaders are working on providing a schedule of events that can be published this winter that will allow greater time to plan participation. Our district membership (DC-MD-VA) is having a meetup on February 8th and I expect other regional gatherings to take place later this spring as well, likely centered around member meetings. Our membership renewals were strong, and we’ve added some great new members both domestically and abroad that I expect will join us in April. Suffice it to say, a lot is going on. I also confidently say 2024 is not the year to let things get in the way of your participation at the SISO CEO Summit this April at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island, home of some of the world’s best sunrises. As always, please contact me directly at vincent@siso.org if you have questions, comments, or suggestions. #eventprofs #eventprofsuk #tradeshows #eventindustry #eventmanagement

Today, Freeman Company released their Q2 edition of the trends report, this time focusing on exhibitors. Here's the TL;DR - none of which are surprising: 🙌 Exhibitors want more customers and prospects at the show 🙌 Exhibitors want pricing transparency and more packages 🙌 Exhibitors want to quickly qualify/disqualify leads 🙌 Exhibitors want more quality networking time My confirmation bias sought out validation on engagement, so here's how I'm reading it: 👉 STAT: 69% of exhibitors say getting an attendee list offers added value. 🔴 PROBLEM: Attendees are registering at the last minute, making it embarrassing and scary to provide "light" lists early, and impossible to align participation decisions on attendees. 🙌 SOLUTION: Sharing company/title is SO helpful to *everyone*! Do it! 👉 STAT: Networking and commerce are the top two reasons to exhibit. 🔴 PROBLEM: Not enough networking time or opportunities. 🙌 SOLUTION: More whitespace in the agenda. Dedicated show hours that don't conflict with sessions. More curated networking (i.e. think tanks, roundtables, collision-rich environments) 👉 STAT: Networking/meetings with attendees ranked highest in importance, but only 37% of exhibitors want tech to help them connect. 🔴 PROBLEM: Organizers are trying to fix the networking problem with tech tools, but the people just want more time with the people. 🙌 SOLUTION: More time in the agenda for conversation, not just listening. 👉 STAT: 44% of exhibitors believe that small group discussions are the most influential teaching/learning opportunity. 🔴 PROBLEM: Most events prioritize large "sit and get" breakout sessions. 🙌 SOLUTION: More roundtables, think tanks, topic-based meetups. 👉 STAT: Topic-specific meetups ranked as the most valuable networking opportunity amongst exhibitors (43%), which aligns with attendees’ networking priorities. 🔴 PROBLEM: Organizers fail to add this into the agenda, favoring traditional breakout sessions. 🙌 SOLUTION: Just add them! More roundtables, think tanks, topic-based meetups. 👉 STAT: 27% of exhibitors rated speed meetups as important, but attendees rank them as the least important networking element (8%). 🔴 PROBLEM: Exhibitors want to quickly qualify/disqualify leads, but attendees are looking for more value when they network. 🙌 SOLUTION: Topic-based small group discussions help provide value to both exhibitors and attendees. 👉 STAT: 95% of exhibitors ranked Meeting/Networking with Customers/Prospects as the #1 reason for exhibiting, but only 59% are satisfied. 🔴 PROBLEM: Organizers are not fulfilling the audience acquisition promises like they used to, and when they do, they aren't providing enough opportunities to network. 🙌 SOLUTION: Audience acquisition is everyone's job. Exhibitors and speakers need to help spread the word to get more registrants. Grab the whole report here:

Still riding the high from last week's Event Tech Live! I'd like to share some insights for those in event production asking about the value of attending such an event. As someone deeply embedded in the industry, I firmly believe in supporting key industry events, whether IMEX, International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), Meeting Professionals International, ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership, PCMA, or anything I might have missed. Advocating for your own event means recognizing the value in others—especially those who support our industries. While many events offer networking opportunities with event technology providers, none compare to Event Tech Live if you want to dive deep. It’s the place to see various technologies under one roof, assess them firsthand, and gain invaluable insights. You'll still get value from engaging with event tech at those events and do it as they exhibit to see you. However, at ETL, you can engage with different industries to see how they are using other solutions and hear from Event Tech leaders about how they are trying to make an impact to foster growth for event technology and development for your events. I highly recommend attending Event Tech Live in the UK later this year, but if you are in the US, you need to make it a must to catch the US edition in '25. It's an investment that pays dividends in knowledge and connections. Also, if you'd like a game plan to optimize the event opportunities, please hit me up... I'm happy to share the template!
GoLucid, LLC is thrilled to reflect on a successful participation at Event Tech Live Las Vegas! We extend our heartfelt thanks to Adam Parry and his dedicated team for orchestrating such a standout event and to all the exhibitors and speakers who made this conference truly one-of-a-kind. Our founder Josiah Taulbee, brought his extensive experience in event technology to the forefront, engaging with industry peers and sharing insights that bridge the gap between event production and technological innovation. Event Tech Live has once again proven to be an essential platform for anyone producing events or utilizing event technology. The insights gained and the connections made are invaluable and if next year is not on your list, it should be. If you missed the event and want to catch up on the latest trends and discussions, or if you’re seeking to enhance your event with innovative technology solutions, or you want to know why you should attend next year with an event tech strategy, reach out to us at GoLucid, LLC. We can help you assess the often complex landscape of options together! You dont have to do it alone or without the expertise. If you didn't get to hear Josiah Taulbee's session, getting ahead of the research and providing ample time will make for much more seamless engagement with technology companies. #EventTechLive #EventTechnology #GoLucid

Vesna Vlasic: “European event competitions drive the industry forward” Ahead of the CONVENTA Best Event Award 2024, the central and one of the oldest event competitions in Europe, we spoke to jury members who shared their thoughts on the most important event criteria, selecting winners and the role of event competitions. Q1: What do you consider the most important criteria when evaluating projects? When evaluating projects, I prioritize creativity, sustainability, and goal realization. A standout event should captivate with a unique concept, incorporate eco-friendly practices, and effectively meet its objectives. Seamless execution within budget constraints showcases strategic resource management and planning. Q2: How would you define the mission of the Conventa Best Event Award? The Conventa Best Event Award aims to celebrate and elevate the event industry by recognizing projects that excel in creativity, innovation, and sustainability.
