A secret weapon in the fight against climate change lies beneath the waves as Pacific Island nations face rising sea levels, extreme weather events and coastal erosion. These marine ecosystems, known as blue carbon, have the remarkable ability to capture and store carbon dioxide. Now, Monash University Master of Environment and Sustainability student Megha Kezhakepuram Purushotham ( she/her) - in collaboration with Fiji National University A/Prof Shalini Singh - is exploring how this untapped resource can empower island nations. Read how Ms Purushotham's work for our Pacific Islands for Climate Transitions (PACT) research centre, will help blue carbon realise its full potential at https://lnkd.in/g24TqfqD #PACT #ClimateChange #BlueCarbon #Sustainability #ClimatePolicy #ClimateAction

🍃🌊 "Natural #ecosystems store immense amounts of #carbon and every year, about half of human carbon dioxide emissions are neutralized by forests, #wetlands and marine habitats...Similar to the #carbonneutral transition, it is urgent that we also embrace the #naturepositive goal so as to build a #sustainable future for all." 👉 Read Nature Positive Initiative convener Marco Lambertini and Umweltbundesamt - German Environment Agency President Dirk Messner, both #CCICED Council Members, in China Daily on the importance of China-EU cooperation to tackle urgent #climate and #environment challenges. https://lnkd.in/dnYbSxY2

Credit to Omar AL-Ajaji thru Climate Change Professionals Group January 15, 2024 The Carbon Credits Ecosystem https://lnkd.in/g4GyNAdY High level view of Carbon Credits process and life cycle VCMs can play an important role in helping to achieve climate goals. By providing a financial incentive for climate-friendly projects, they can help to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy- Here are some of the benefits of VCMs: ● They can help to finance climate-friendly projects that would not otherwise be viable ● They can help to reduce greenhouse g as emissions. ● They can help to create jobs and promote economic development. ● They can help to protect biodiversity and improve air quality.

Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, driving sustainable development and trade relations in and for Singapore.
Pleased to attend a dialogue session at WWF-Singapore’s Earth Hour Summit to commemorate Earth Day 🌍. We discussed the need for businesses to integrate climate resilient strategies into their decarbonisation efforts and how policymakers can support businesses in doing so. In fact, the National Business Survey 2023/2024 highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in tackling rising costs and immediate business concerns. It is important for all stakeholders to collaborate and innovate in this green transition. We can tackle climate change with our collective efforts! 🤝 #EarthDay #Sustainability #ClimateChange

An excellent article by Peter Thomson in TIME Climate change and our Ocean are intrinsically linked: “The realities of our planetary responsibilities, and the absolute moral imperative of intergenerational justice, hopefully imbued with love, oblige us to start living in better balance with the world, to stop making war on nature, to make peace with it, and thereby to stop the decline in the ocean’s health. There can be no fulfillment of the Paris Agreement without the ocean. To meet the 1.5°C goal, the world must make a massive pivot towards investment in ocean science, innovation, and the development of a truly sustainable and socially responsible ocean economy. We must make that pivot as if our grandchildren’s lives depend on it, because for many of them, that will be the case.” https://lnkd.in/eynnyx99
