Leaders from across our life science ecosystem and the Harvard community recently gathered to celebrate a project five years in the making: One Milestone at the Enterprise Research Campus (ERC). A first-of-its-kind innovation hub developed in partnership with the Harvard HALC team, the ERC is a dynamic, mixed-use space designed to support research and discovery for biopharma companies of all sizes, right in the heart of Boston’s Allston neighborhood. The first phase—opening in 2026—will feature an immersive hotel alongside premium residential space and a 755-person conference center, as well as the two state-of-the-art lab buildings of One Milestone. The event, hosted at Harvard’s John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, featured a series of panel discussions with industry pioneers in academia and biotech. They talked about how One Milestone's unique positioning will encourage audacious thinking and foster connections—both planned and spontaneous—to create a thriving community at the intersection of cutting-edge research, company creation, and ultimately, life-saving drug development.

We are about to launch 🚀 ! September 6th we'll open our virtual door to the world. ...what if interdisciplinarity wasn’t just a buzzword? ...what if innovators could find each other's expertise precisely when needed and exactly on point? ...what if real field experts could communicate with immediate effect under NDA/CDA conditions? ...what if knowledge and technology could flow freely between academia and industry, back and forth? ...what if there was a team that removed the "...what if"? We are feeling incredibly inspired and energized after visiting the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard! Boston really is a hotbed for groundbreaking innovation, and we are fortunate enough to work with some of the leading biotech companies driving positive change in the world. Witnessing the groundbreaking research unfolding at the Broad Institute was a humbling experience. Their relentless pursuit to decode disease and translate it into life-saving therapies is nothing short of awe-inspiring. This, coupled with the collaborative spirit among Boston's vibrant biotech community, creates an electrifying ecosystem to be a part of. It's a constant reminder of the incredible potential technology holds to impact lives and redefine what's possible. This experience reminds us of the incredible impact technology can have on the world. It's not just about building software or managing networks; it's about empowering people to do amazing things. And in the case of biotech, it's about improving lives and pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Feeling grateful to be a part of this vibrant community and excited to see what the future holds! #biotech #innovation #boston #broadinstitute #mit #harvard #grateful #makinganimpact

I'd visit places like Boston and be in awe of the biotech scene. With a pile of mangled, rusty bikes outside the train station, I thought Cambridge was way behind. But, boy, Cambridge has changed. Pile-o-rusty-bikes is symbolic of the progress. Now, when you get off the train, you're greeted with tall, neat buildings that are home to major tech companies. --- ➟ But last week, I had another moment of realisation when I visited the Addenbrookes site. It's only up the road, but I haven't been there for years. 🤷♂️ That campus is now a melting pot of life science innovation. It has a perfect combination of: - The hospital - The University - Big pharma (e.g. AZ) - Other big companies (e.g. Abcam) - Collaborative institutes like the Milner - Leading basic research institutes (e.g. LMB) Sorry for not mentioning everyone, but kudos to those who have played a part in the developments there. 👏👏👏 The world will reap the benefits of innovation coming from there for decades. --- 🧬 We're building a world-leading DNA synthesis company here in Cambridge. ➕ If you want to be part of our journey, follow Camena Bioscience or me (Steve Harvey). ♻️ If you found this post interesting, please repost it to your network --- Photo: Cambridge Railway Station Bicycle Wikimedia Commons

The UK’s National Vision for engineering biology sets forth a vision on how to achieve a rich engineering biology ecosystem that can safely develop & commercialize these technologies. Read it here 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/dkiZud74 Biotechnology & life science startups are seeing a flywheel effect in Sweden & Denmark, thanks to successful exits like Olink and investments from Novo Nordisk into the local ecosystem. But there’s still a lot to be gained from adopting the key strategies proposed in the UK policy for R&D investments, developing cross-disciplinary talent pools and access to physical & digital infrastructure. The semiconductor industry is being transformed by DNA-based data storage. Climate solutions are being bioengineered. Entrepreneurial teams & Researchers are becoming synonymous (extra applause to DTU - Technical University of Denmark & BioInnovation Institute ). More and more innovations are seeking engineers & commercial teams as they make the journey from “ Lab to Fab(rication)”. I think it’s urgent for the European deep tech investment ecosystem to step up and keep pace , bridging the gaps in company building with our know how and network - not just our capital. Fantastic insights! A warm thanks to the Science Innovation Network and Saba Hussein Gore, PhD for the invitation to a truly inspiring evening!

As a kid growing up I always wanted to work at CERN. Never made it there, but at least got to the IdeaSquare - the innovation space at CERN. Well a publication in the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation, that is. With Gernot Pruschak (BFH Wirtschaft), Marielle Feenstra and Claudia Werker (both at Delft University of Technology) we analyzed five European research consortia within the ATTRACT 2 ecosystem. It highlights that inbound open innovation activities, such as incorporating external expertise; and coupled open innovation activities, involving collaboration with peers and business projects, can compensate for a lack of entrepreneurial intentions among scientists. However, establishing partnerships remains challenging, as initial funding is often necessary for prototype development. ✅ Get to know more about this paper ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dAGTwkMT ✅ For detailed insights about the project, visit ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dnqxQGCj #EUfunded #ATTRACTEU #OpenInnovation
📢 #ATTRACTproject 📢 How can academic research be successfully transformed into marketable products and services❓🤔 A recent study by the ATTRACT-EMDOI research team addresses this question by investigating the interaction between entrepreneurial intentions and open innovation activities. The paper, published in the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation, is based on the qualitative analysis of five European research consortia within the ATTRACT 2 ecosystem. It highlights that inbound open innovation activities, such as incorporating external expertise; and coupled open innovation activities, involving collaboration with peers and business projects, can compensate for a lack of entrepreneurial intentions among scientists.
