Is it just me or is there irony in the fact that significant layoffs are occuring in cyber currently and yet there are supposedly 3.5 million unfilled jobs in cybersecurity globally, including an estimated 750,000 in the United States alone? I am seeing these impacted people struggling to find roles. I don't get it! At a time when cyberwarfare, quantum, Generative AI/LLMs, regulatory explosion are here and now issues, what on earth is going on? "Robots" certainly won't keep us safe, at least not yet. We need experts and experienced cybersecurity professionals AND a strong pipeline. What's going on and why?

It’s great to see so many cyber jobs being posted! That being said… An important question to ask is whether these are backfills or new positions. If it’s new, they’re growing their cyber teams! How great is that?! But if it’s a backfill… ask why. What happened to make that position available? There were a ton of layoffs. There were also a lot of folks who left bad bosses. Ask discovery questions to find out. Build confidence in the new role you’re chasing. Gather information to make informed decisions. Build your careee with smart moves. No doubt, our news feeds have been plagued with mass layoffs in the tech industry, specifically in the video game sector. However, Tech sector employers added 18,000 jobs in January in the second consecutive month of rebound, according to a CompTIA review of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Bringing the total to approximately 392,000 active tech job postings across the economy.
