Lime has been notified that it must remove its dockless e-bikes from Brent by 31 October if it continues to ignore our safety concerns and suggestions for improvements to the scheme. Of particular concern is the already high and increasing number of incidents of inconsiderately parked and abandoned e-bikes reported to the council daily and the often slow response time by Lime to remove these (see examples below). Read more in our latest news release: https://lnkd.in/ezBmkbC6 Muhammed Butt

  • Multiple Lime bikes left strewn across the floor blocking the pavement
  • Lime bikes left in the middle of the pavement outside a supermarket
  • A lime bike strewn across a river bank with foliage from the river all over it
  • A lime bike left in the middle of the walkway leading down Olympic Way, Wembley Park

I just used a Lime bike for the first time in Paris, France, and was not allowed to complete my journey until I had parked my bike in a designated parking bay that had spaces available. This made a HUGE difference as there were no abandoned bikes anywhere. Surely designated parking bays has to be the only way forward for all.of these types of bikes? They cause so much hassle for those with mobility and visual impairments, as well as those without! I do not want to be forced to walk onto a busy road because there is a Lime bike on its side, blocking the pathway. I hope that designated parking bays become a thing asap!

Whilst I don't condone the poor parking from what could be a small proportion of user - this is notice is abit strange. I've seen plenty of cases where young cyclists riding without paying (they beep when this happens). There is a high likelihood that this is the proportion who mistreat the bikes as there is no way to track and charge them, not the users who pay for the rides. I use Lime sometimes, its a more affordable and healthier way to commute short distances and not worry about using my bike and it being stolen. And vs TfL tube/buses, I'm sure I saw some posts on Reddit of how it was much cheaper for like for like journey distances. Interesting to note that there is no reflection on the impact this could have on people who rely on it as an afforable (and much greener) alternative to commute to places of work over say TfL/Car or owning their own bike and worry about it being stolen. I'm sure there would have been a better resolution to this before a blanket notice (cap or set reduction targets of 25%-50% and see the impact of the change, education/fines for misuses, put preventative / corrective measures in place etc etc.)

Inconsiderate parking of e-bikes also presents a barrier to wheelchair users & many people pushing buggies. This is also an issue of accessibility & all credit to Brent Council for tacking this issue. The solution is with both the provider and user - both of whom need to accept responsibility.

My comment extends beyond just the topic at hand, and I hope you'll come to understand the issue I'm addressing as you read on. The local Asda in Wembley has been permitting customers to remove shopping trolleys from the store's premises. These trolleys, some of which belong to Lidl in the vicinity, are frequently left on the pavements of Chalkhill Estate, reminiscent of the discarded Lime bikes. I've voiced my concerns regarding this issue to the store manager, Brent Council, and my local MP, Barry Gardiner. Despite receiving assurances that my grievances were acknowledged and that measures would be taken to curb the unauthorized use of the trolleys, which are often carelessly left on the pavements outside several blocks within the estate, and once, about five years ago, in a river under a bridge near Chalkhill Estate, the problem persists. I possess photographic evidence of this incident. Nevertheless, as of late 2024, both Asda and Lidl have yet to take adequate steps to not only stop the blatant misuse of their trolleys by inconsiderate and reckless customers but also to prevent the estate from turning into an informal place for abandoned trolleys and Lime bikes, which have become as prevalent as the trolleys themselves.

Stopping the service because some users mistreat what is a great amenity would be short sighted. Putting more ownous on users to park correct (which lime can support)would make sense. Some boroughs have designated parking bays which work well. Eg Camden

We love the Limebikes and use them all the time here at Garden Studios. Please don't take them away from Brent. Keeping the fleet going is also civic responsability in partnership with the company.

If I were in your situation, they would have been gone. Tripping hazard liability ouch. They may be brightly colored and should be easily noticed but this is America man . Just about half of the adults in this country will want to beat you up if you ask them, is the secret service going to have to pick up the soap for trump when he goes to prison or will he have to do it himself. Funny yes but seriously, who's picking it up? The retardlicans get all worked up when you tell them that wrestling is fake and the real reason trump said don't wear masks is because people weren't dieing fast enough for him to declare martial law. And people here are too dumb to use the round a bout so they had to put stop signs on them. In Europe they don't need stop signs. Sorry just started venting.

How much do they cost to hire, I've never seen any where I live and am curious how it works,

You should get charged a premium if you do not "dock" you rented scooter or bike, £20 or more, why should we put up with them abandoned on our pavements
