It's not about the journey or the destination. It's about the people you travel with. I have always fancied scaling Gushwork with a very small tight-knit team, who I love working with and keep it that way as long as possible. I am excited to announce that we now have the 5th addition to our core team - Ninad Deshpande! About 5 years back, when I was a junior associate at a VC, I met this young lad doing his summer internship there. We did not speak or overlap much, but something about him stuck with me. Cut to 2021, I was looking to hire a product analyst for my team at at my last company. For some reason, I remembered him & reached out to him cold. He was interested and I made him an offer after a couple of short calls & a quick reference check. Since then, there was no looking back. We were in the trenches for around a couple of years, building & scaling products at Prodigal. The first 6 months were very harsh on him - coming from a corporate job like Cisco, working with me, at an early-stage startup was definitely not the easiest for him. Almost all of his work got harshly critiqued by me every other day for the first few months. He took all my feedback in a stride, held strong opinions loosely, changed them, when presented with new evidence and stayed humble, stayed sincere & put in the hours needed to reach excellence. After the first few months in his infancy, he started killing it! He was on auto-pilot, infectious energy, highly data-driven & became the go-to problem solver for the entire team. I am really excited to announce that he is joining us at Gushwork as part of the core team - he will be spending most of his time solving the hardest problems in growth and business operations. Have a lot of respect for founders building in public, though I don't see many sharing until things are up and to the right. It's funny how we love a success story once it's a success story and yet we don't often see them happen in real-time. We wait until we have a little bit of success and then we're willing to share our story. 6 years ago (wow!) I was embarrassed to talk about the fact that I was pivoting from med school to an SDR internship. But now, when I put it all together: SDR intern > full-time SDR (top performer) > AE (top performer) > Founder funded by my old boss. It sounds much more cool and I'm proud. But there's lessons to be learned in the ups and downs during the journey; stuff I went through and felt but didn't document. As a founder I've been less vocal about this journey but it's important to capture and I get inspired seeing other people do it. And it feels so good when I talk to someone else and they feel the same way, we have a shared experience but sometimes miss that being too busy posturing to get on the same page. So I'll start by saying at OpTonal we had a rollercoaster year. We had a major product pivot, dropped some contracts, and restarted the beta customer process. I made hires and didn't put people in the best position to succeed, still working on this skill + cultivating a strong culture. We got revenue with this new iteration of the product which was a huge win! Now we're trying to test repeatable messaging based on the value customers are getting to stand out and see what resonates. It's really hard to do that at scale quickly. Big shout out to the team for staying nimble and moving fast, but still a long way to go. Thankful to have Matija as a partner on the ride. Despite the challenges, it's important to pause and be grateful for the positives and where you've been + what you've achieved. Guess the message here (for myself more than anything) is be brave + vulnerable in sharing your journey so others can see how the sausage is made. Not always pretty, but might inspire someone to see that they can do it too.

🌟 Recap with Robby A. 🌟 We had the wonderful opportunity to converse with Robby. We heard before his arrival that he's your go-to person for business and tech transformation. After chatting for an hour with him, I would not dare deny it. Here are a few things that I learned from him that will stick with me: 1) Be ambitious 2) Ask yourself this question before starting a career: It should be who you want to work for rather than where you want to work; that can make all the difference. 3) During engagements: Get to know people and your team; build trust and credibility 4) It's okay to make mistakes, but taking ownership of your mistakes and working on making them right or learning from them is extremely important. 5) It's important to understand how we react to setbacks. 6) Ultimately, if you compromise on who you are for short-term benefits, you are hurting yourself in the long run. Don't ever compromise on your core values and what you believe in. 7) Act with clarity, cohesion, and communication. 8) Enable the people around you to be a force multiplier. 9) Keep the main thing, the main thing. 🎉 Happy Birthday, be/impact! 🎉 Today we turn 1 year old! It's crazy how fast this year has flown by! In fact, we almost forgot it was our birthday today as we’re busy wrapping up our funding round. 😅 But it’s important to take a moment to celebrate and be grateful for everything we've accomplished over the past 12 months. We incorporated on September 20, 2023, because we had secured our first customer and needed a bank account. I’m still amazed that it took me under 30 minutes to register be/impact and suddenly become the director of a company! In Germany, this process would have taken weeks and involved a few visits to the notary. 😄 Here’s a quick look at what Fabien Laplace and I are most proud of over the last year: 1️⃣ Onboarded 50 not-for-profits, delivering training through our platform valued at over £90k in Social Value, with an average participant recommendation score of 9.18 out of 10! 2️⃣ Secured an Innovate UK Grant, which helped us turn our MVP into a scalable web app. (More info on the roll-out is coming soon!) 3️⃣ Expanded our team: Our core team has grown to 5, and we now have an extended team of 10 people regularly working toward our mission to upskill 100 million employees. We’ve also had the pleasure of providing internship experiences to 7 incredible individuals so far! And with the closing of our funding round, we’re excited to be hiring a Chief of Staff to help with business development and operations. A big thank you to everyone who has supported us in the past 12 months!
