Listening to the community is a priority in learning what is important for those impacted by a condition. We are grateful to have attended this year’s Achondroplasia & Skeletal Dysplasia Research Conference hosted by The Chandler Project and look forward to applying our learnings to future collaborations with the community.

Chad Rohrbacher and Joshua Caulkins and Jenna Korentsides, M.S. and I are very proud of this research and what it suggests about teaching changes during the pandemic. We have lots of data to share, and hopefully soon! #educationaldevelopment #syllabus #studentcentered #pandemicresponse #highereducation #teachingandlearning
Senior Associate Director—COE & Faculty Mentoring, Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
I want to give a shout out to my fellow researchers, Lori Mumpower, Joshua Caulkins, and Jenna Korentsides, M.S. (via recorded video) who presented with me yesterday at POD 2023. Also, a special thanks to those who were in attendance and shared their thoughtful questions with us. Of course, we wouldn't have been able to do it without Amy Cicchino and Aimee Fleming and the generous support of a POD 2022 research grant. It was just a great experience overall.

If you read nothing else this year this is the one! every one of Toms posts are brilliant but this may be his best ever and i hope not his last. Rarely do I share a post I 100% agree with but this i do. here is a wee snippet "Imagine what would happen if the National Science Foundation (NSF) were headed by people who have spent a lifetime embracing and practicing Indigenous ways and wisdoms. They could oversee scientific efforts to supplement our understanding of this complex world as one important and reliable input, but always with an eye to the guiding question: is this research likely to be a net help to the community of life, or a net harm? If in doubt, then maybe: don’t. Efforts aimed just at human concerns seldom do us any long-term favors, as the associated collateral damage to the ecosphere takes our living collective backwards." https://lnkd.in/gKtAA5Zx

This is part of the Prenatal-to-3 Policy Impact Center state roadmap for North Carolina. I know a lot of researchers in the Triangle Area are doing excellent research about the topics encompassed in these policy goals but there is still the jarring fact that it takes an average of 17 years for research to be fully and reflected in policy (Schelbe et al., 2020). We need to continue strengthening connections with the policymakers and practitioners to improve the outcomes for families in our state.

Why should you partner with #PennState? Because of innovative institutes like Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. They believe in bringing together scientists and stakeholders to collaborate in the face of threats as local as the aging population of Pennsylvania and as global as climate change. Partnerships with experts from academic, industry, nongovernmental, and governmental backgrounds tie in closely with the collaborative, interdisciplinary core mission of the Huck Institutes. Through these joint efforts, they combine world-class research with indispensable practical expertise to solve important, real-world problems. Learn more: https://ow.ly/vX0950PFopu

Being a PhD student, there are many milestones that we set for ourselves as a measure of our progress. Now these milestones can be as small as motivating oneself to work on their proposal for only 20 minutes straight without interruptions (also one of my goals these days, alas!) or as major as presenting at your first in-person international conference (an achievement fulfilled in the summer!) For me, another one of these milestones was getting a paper published in Anthrozoös, a renowned journal in the human-animal interaction field, and it finally happened!! A paper on the topic, Avoidant Attachment Mediates Cultural Differences in Likelihood to Surrender Pets, in collaboration with excellent researchers - Jennifer Vonk, Dr. Amy (Johnson) Binder, EdD, LPC, CPDT-KA, UW-AAB, Patricia Cameron, and Eddie Lee - was recently published in Anthrozoös. If you are interested in giving it a read, here is a link for the paper: https://lnkd.in/gSYDyrfH If you would like an eprint, please reach out to me! I told my cat to celebrate but he was too busy bird watching. #usask #phd #phdstudent #onehealth #humananimalbond #pets #surrender #culturaldiversity #saskatoon #anthrozoos

"As leaders of the Open Research Funders Group (ORFG), we work in partnership with 26 leading philanthropic organizations to develop, implement, and oversee open science policies. One area that warrants particular attention is research data. Research data are critical to: 1) the independent confirmation of results and conclusions; 2) making informed decisions about future research activities; and 3) demonstrating the type of transparency that builds public confidence in science." #OpenScience ...
