Let's talk about one of the projects we concluded a few months back. A program digitization service for Plan International Ethiopia. It was a 3 Months project that enabled digital record keeping of records of caregiver mothers, their child care centers, working mothers, and their children in care. The platform captures geographic records of the care centers supported by the program and the economic improvements of the women who run them (mama pruners). Accordingly, it also captures the detail of the mothers that utilize the services of centers and their respective children along with periodic prompts to capture categorical progress of a child. The program was designed and piloted by Mr.Assefa Hailu-MSc, MA an accomplished colligue in the development sector. like and comment for similar contents from our team. #softwareProject #digitization #softwareDevelopment

I'm delighted to share that I recently presented my paper at the Online International Conference on Multidisciplinary Aspects of Built Environment (ICoMABE) hosted by Apeejay Institute of Technology, School of Architecture & Planning titled 'From the Ground Up: Reconceptualising Homelessness in a bid to understand it better'. From June 20-22, 2024, we engaged in insightful discussions on architecture, urban planning, design, and innovative pedagogical approaches. Homelessness is a mark of failure for communities in providing basic security. The increase in the number of people without homes nationally and internationally reflects the profound neglect of basic human needs within modern capitalist society’s "social indicator" marking the decline of the welfare state and the rise of monetarist neoliberal economic strategies (Teeple 1995). According to UN Habitat data, 150 million people—or 1 out of every 65—live without a place to call home and experience abuse and abandonment. The problem of homelessness has been necessitated by several factors, including persistent population increases, inadequate housing, and uncontrolled urban growth pattern resulting in “homelessness” among the vast majority of urban dwellers. This paper gave a thorough overview of the issue of homelessness, including its definition, root causes, and global context. The authors also covered the difficulties experienced by the homeless. Despite the extensive literature on homelessness, there is surprisingly little work that investigates the roots of homelessness. By agreeing on the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, India agrees that the impact of the housing sector is central to achieving stability and income growth and if India aims to resolve the issue, then this study will justify the need for urgent attention from the government and other stakeholders towards addressing the problems of homelessness and inadequate housing among the urban poor and those that are deprived access to decent shelters in the developing world. The study highlighted the need to view homelessness as multifaceted and storied throughout, and concluded with a call for greater research that considers a person's whole life rather than simply a few specific instances of homelessness. It was an incredible experience to connect with fellow researchers and professionals, exploring emerging trends and technologies shaping our built environment. A special thanks to my co authors Mohd Afzal Khan Rashad Anwar Ar. Ilma for their invaluable contributions and support. #ICoMABE2024 #Architecture #UrbanPlanning #Design #Conference

Democracy isn’t just a word—it’s people's power in action! This #InternationalDayofDemocracy, we celebrate not just governance, but the power of every voice in shaping our collective future. Let’s remember that a democracy thrives when #communities, #governments, and #citizens, especially our #youth, are empowered and emboldened to not just participate, but be the architects of a brighter nation. Today, let’s build on this idea, by making the nation's #health a priority, because a healthy nation is a free and empowered one. With #India home to the world's largest adolescent and youth population, their involvement is crucial for sculpting a better future. Educating young people about their health equips them with essential knowledge to make informed choices, advocate effectively for their needs, and drive meaningful change. At AIFT, we place youth at the core of our initiatives. Through our public health program, #MANSI, we empower them to master their well-being, make healthier decisions, and positively influence their lives and communities. This empowerment transforms not just individual futures but also the broader landscape of progress. Watch how MANSI reaches the remotest corners of India to empower rural adolescents and youth to foster healthy, democratic communities, and drive participatory democracy: https://lnkd.in/gqB4eCkH #DemocracyDay #DemocracyMatters #VoiceOfThePeople #DemocracyInAction #Freedom #HumanRights #PoshanMaah2024

As the world's population grows by billions in the coming decades, particularly in countries like India, Nigeria, and Pakistan, the challenges of urbanization and megacity growth are intensifying. According to recent projections, these nations will experience the largest population booms, placing immense pressure on urban infrastructure, housing, and essential resources. This rapid growth demands urgent solutions for sustainable development in megacities across the Global South. Without significant investments in resilient infrastructure, clean energy, and climate adaptation strategies, the consequences of overcrowding, pollution, and resource scarcity (food and water) will be severe. The future of global development hinges on our ability to support these megacities with smart urban planning and green technologies that address climate change while improving the quality of life. Can it be done? I believe so. Stakeholder alignment is key. Governments, businesses, and international organizations must collaborate to drive sustainable growth that aligns with both population trends and environmental realities. #Sustainability #Urbanization #ClimateAction #Megacities #SustainableDevelopment #SmartCities #PopulationGrowth #ClimateResilience #GlobalSouth
