For those of you who noted Alvina Vasquez’s piece I shared a couple weeks ago about titles sometimes mattering, this is who I was talking about. Vicki Erfurdt is GBSM’s rock. Amidst our merry band of management, communications and political brains…Vicki is the clear financial brain, rhythmic heart and steady hand of the firm. Over the last 20+ years, she has deftly navigated recessions, leadership transitions, pandemics, staff reductions and the remarkable growth we have seen in the last couple years. A month or two ago, I realized that I always talked about her…and that, when talking with people outside the firm, I would say that she was “essentially our CFO.” But the only reason I used the modifier, “essentially,” was because it wasn’t her formal title. That felt disrespectful. And like I wasn’t properly elevating the C-Suite, leadership role she plays for our business to external audiences. And I wanted everyone who encounters GBSM to know that Vicki is not just a leader in our firm, but a C-Suite executive that drives our success. So I ignored my “titles don’t matter” belief and promoted her to CFO. Vicki and I have worked together for nearly 20 years. There is no way that the firm would be where it is today without her. And there is no way that I would have become the leader I am still striving to be without her. #leadership #finance #titlesmatter #finance #consulting

🚀When you know, you know: over the past decade, S&P 1500 Boards are moving more quickly to name an interim CEO as permanent CEO. ⏩ Accelerated succession: average interim tenure has fallen from 5.6 to 3.6 months for those who are promoted to permanent CEO. ⏱️ Quick vote of confidence: Boards may be getting better at assessing the readiness of interims for the permanent role.
