Grassroots initiatives are crucial for community building and pioneering innovative working methods. These projects focus on addressing specific needs within communities, such as providing youth programming in underserved areas. What sets grassroots efforts apart is their emphasis on relational and trust-based support, creating a direct and personal impact on those they serve. While both grassroots movements and nonprofits are vital for community support, they each bring unique approaches. Grassroots initiatives often emerge from within the community, driven by local volunteers and personal connections. In contrast, nonprofits typically operate on a larger scale, with formal structures and broader resource access, allowing them to tackle more extensive issues systematically. Together, grassroots initiatives and nonprofits create a comprehensive support system, each contributing uniquely to the betterment of society. #thepodvocateproject #podvocateprojectyyc #charitablegiving #marketingtips #yycgiving

For nonprofits working on asking demographic questions soon, this post is for you: Your social identity questions (e.g., on race, ethnicity, gender-identity, ability, nationality etc.) must center equity, inclusion, and access in their design, language, and methodology. In this picture, here are three example questions from a respondent’s perspective to consider during design under each equity, inclusion, and access pillar. #nonprofits #nonprofitleadership #community

Rethink biases: Community Leaders I appreciate all that is being done in my community to support single mothers and children with disabilities but, I have a problem in how it's being done. If you truly want to help, empower them, advocate for resources that could make them independent and self- sufficient. Talk about their empowerment and resilience. Do not reinforce the existing stereotypes by asking for continuous donations for them especially on public forums. Refer them to the right resources. Do not further otherize them by pitying them directly or indirectly. Their circumstances do not define them. Do not reinforce and strengthen their already internalized sense of inferiority by assuming a saviour role to glorify yourself. Rethink and unlearn your biases and false sense of superiority. #CommunityDevelopment #equitydiversityinclusion

❤️A love letter to BIPOC Fundraisers❤️: I need you. The community we grew up in needs you. Your younger self needs you. There aren’t enough of us in this space. Passion and perspective are not teachable skills. So why are we being driven out of the field? Why aren’t managers and nonprofits learning: * How to advocate for BIPOC fundraisers in a historically white philanthropic space. * How to create an inclusive workspace where we can share our struggles without facing judgement You’re right, I need to be more granular because there’s a disconnect between the data and practice. Birgit Smith Burton called out some problems in her article, “The Issue of Racism in the Fundraising Profession.” Her article references research from as early on as 2004 because these issues still persist. I’m here to say inclusion is possible. Support is possible. Getting a seat at the table is possible. But it’s a tiring fight. And it shouldn’t be rare. My hope for us is that those who hold the most power in these spaces, do the work to become better. Because you deserve more. ❤️ Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP Global) AFP Minnesota

Hourglass provides local, reliable information on Lancaster County issues, ensuring informed decisions and making Lancaster a better place to live and work. With funding from High Foundation, Hourglass has been able to test the innovative concept of deliberative democracy in Lancaster County. Not only is this a tool that provides the public with greater representation on policy issues, but it’s also an opportunity to bring people together across age, gender, race, political background, and geographic location to reduce polarization and find common ground. We look forward to seeing how Hourglass continues to foster meaningful conversation around the issues facing Lancaster County. #highfoundation #highcompanies #philanthropy #nonprofit #givingback #education #healthservices #humanservices #artsandculture #historicpreservation #environment #sustainability #socialenterprise #socialgood #dogood #giveback #businessforgood #community #lancasterpa #cityoflancaster #lancastercounty #lancastercity #lancastercountypa #centralpa
