As an advocate of sexual assault survivors, it's crucial we address the fact that juvenile offenders constitute over one-third of those known for committing sexual offenses against minors. This statistic isn't just a number—it's a call to action for early intervention and comprehensive education on respect, consent, and healthy interpersonal relationships. We must champion proactive measures that equip our young people with knowledge and empathy, helping them understand the consequences of their actions. Investing in early education and creating supportive environments can prevent harmful behaviors and promote accountability among our youth. Let's unite in fostering a culture that guides our young towards positive growth and safety, ensuring a future where every child can thrive in a community that nurtures and protects them. As children and adolescents experience increasingly high rates of mental and behavioral health conditions, access to appropriate care is a serious challenge. During #NASHPCONF2024, state officials identified priority areas that included assessing statewide behavioral health needs, collaborating with child-serving partners, and facilitating system navigation for youth and families. Just attended a game-changing webinar on adolescent substance abuse by Mercy University's IHELP department. 🌟 As a parent and future therapist, this was a major eye-opener! 🚨 Shocked by the teen trends in nicotine, alcohol, and marijuana use. It's crucial we start these conversations early. Learned so much about the dire consequences of substance abuse, which has totally reshaped how I'll talk to my kids about it. 💡 Early intervention and the S2BI strategy are key. The Texas Health and Human Services Office of Forensic Coordination partnered with the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health to publish a new resource for juvenile justice and behavioral health stakeholders to help develop strategies for youth involved with or at risk of involvement with the juvenile justice system. This literature review provides an overview of the development of the Texas Youth Sequential Intercept Model (SIM), describes diversion best practices originating from the four cornerstones of the Critical Intervention Model, and provides examples of best practice programs and intervention for each of the Texas Youth SIM Intercepts.https://https://lnkd.in/gqdf2Vvu
