Helping the Homeless, #endhomelessness #whatcanwedoforhomelesspeople Saturday night as my husband and I made our way downtown to Atlanta, we were struck by the sight of numerous homeless individuals queuing up in what appeared to be a shelter line. This wasn't the first time we'd noticed the growing presence of tents and crowds in our neighborhood, but witnessing the extent of the line left us truly taken aback. It's disheartening to see so many people without a place to call home, not just in our immediate surroundings but in cities across the nation. While we acknowledge the talents and success of professional athletes, it's sobering to contrast their multimillion-dollar contracts with the plight of those who lack basic shelter. I’m not hating at all on athletes. :-) Bless their talents but it makes me think! This dissonance prompts reflection: How can we, as a society, reconcile such disparities? How can we extend a helping hand to those in need? While there's no easy answer, one thing is clear: We must mobilize resources to aid the most vulnerable among us. For corporations and businesses, it's imperative to prioritize social responsibility and expedite efforts to address homelessness. While the solutions may elude us, it's crucial that we come together to explore possibilities and act. If you share our concern and desire to contribute to this cause, I invite you to join us in initiating a dialogue or offering support. Please fill out this form to connect with us and explore avenues for collaboration. Together, let's work towards a more equitable and compassionate society. https://lnkd.in/eWf3t95b

An estimated 68,440 people in Chicago experienced homelessness in 2021, with #Hispanic and Latino/a/x Chicagoans often facing #homelessness through couch-surfing—91% living in doubled-up situations, according to the Chicago Coalition to end Homelessness. National research points to the "Latino Homeless Paradox," where this group is underrepresented in street and shelter homelessness data despite high rates of poverty and #housinginsecurity. Researchers attribute this to strong social networks and informal support systems. Latino Policy Forum and Illinois Latino News (ILLN) have launched a 2-year campaign to raise awareness about 'doubling-up,' the most common form of homelessness in the #Latinx community. The campaign challenges HUD's definition of homelessness, which excludes those living doubled-up, and aims to inform housing policy for disproportionately affected Black and Latinx populations. #HispanicHeritageMonth Learn more: https://bit.ly/4e1RM4c

One of the elements of our Theory of Change is doing what it takes. For us that means addressing immediate needs and tailoring support to suit each person. In the current housing market that’s challenging, and our Housing and Homelessness team are doing a great job. The proportion of people who were in unstable, unsafe or unaffordable housing when they engaged our services continues to grow. Our specialist homelessness services continue to achieve strong outcomes in securing and sustaining housing, but this work is taking much longer and is more complex. Whether it’s supporting people to keep their tenancy, ringing around to find accommodation, or pulling on the gum boots and going out to wherever there are people in need, YFS workers are doing what it takes. The theme for Homelessness Week 2024 is “Homelessness Action Now”. We all need to work together to take action and do what it takes to end homelessness. #HW2024 #HomelessnessWeek2024

SecondGrace.LA - Organizing Angelenos to End Homelessness In the battle against homelessness in Los Angeles, there are countless unsung heroes. These are the volunteers, the community organizations, the faith groups, and the everyday citizens who have rolled up their sleeves and said, "Not in our city." These grassroots warriors are on the frontlines every day, providing food, shelter, support, and most importantly, hope to our unhoused neighbors. But as the homelessness crisis has grown, so too has the realization that these scattered efforts, however heroic, are not enough. To truly make a dent in this issue, we need coordination. We need collaboration. We need a network that can harness the collective power of all these individual efforts and turn it into a force for systemic change. Collaboration is key…
Homelessness is a social, economic, and public health problem of growing magnitude in the United States, with New Jersey’s homeless population still rising beyond 10,000 persons. Today, homeless individuals face many complex problems, which makes it important to take a different approach. We need to take action together! Let’s create a "Community-Based Collaboration" to eradicate women and family homelessness. Community-based collaboration is the process by which citizens, agencies, organizations, and businesses make formal, sustained commitments to work together to accomplish a shared vision. It requires a commitment to share decision-making and the allocation of human, physical, and financial resources. When communities do not develop a pattern of collaboration, they diminish community development potential. Effective collaboration results in win-win-win situations. So, who’s in? Who wants to learn more about creating a community-based collaboration with TPCS? To learn more contact Dawn Schwartz at dschwartz@tpcsinc.org. #collaboration #communityservice #getinvolved

At the annual State of Homelessness Address, we announced our third consecutive year of reductions in homelessness in Dallas and Collin counties, including the lowest total number of people experiencing homelessness in nearly a decade. 👏 According to the 2024 Point-in-Time count, a total of 3,718 individuals are experiencing homelessness on any given night in Dallas and Collin counties. That equates to a 19% reduction in overall homelessness and a 24% reduction in unsheltered homelessness since 2021. The strategic moves we’ve made as a community are showing results! But we still have work to do. Our community must continue investing in these effective solutions that will house more neighbors experiencing homelessness with the wraparound support they need to rebuild their lives.
