🖊 International Women’s Day holds a deeply personal significance for me as it marks the pivotal moment in 2023 when Social Compass Group transformed from a mere idea 💡 into a tangible reality. In my line of work, I often witness a common thread among women – a tendency to underestimate ourselves, downplay our achievements, and shy away from pursuing our full potential. I've been guilty of this mindset myself over the years. We may hesitate to apply for that dream job, doubting our abilities, or feel content with where we are in our careers, hesitant to strive for more. Stepping away from the security of a steady job, a safety net I've known since for a very long time, to venture into the unknown realm of entrepreneurship was nothing short of daunting. ❓Questions swirled in my mind: Can I do this? Will people believe in our vision? What if we fail? But alongside Anna Skeels, I took the leap to establish Social Compass Group, driven by our shared vision to create something truly impactful. We were determined to forge a different path, one rooted in our core values of Integrity, Compassion, Transparency, Curiosity, and Collaboration. It wasn't by chance that on March 8, 2023, coinciding with International Women’s Day, we officially sealed the deal, cementing Social Compass Group as a legitimate business entity. In that moment, the fears and uncertainties melted away, replaced by a profound sense of calm and excitement 😊 The journey from that pivotal day unfolded rapidly. Within a few months, we expanded our reach to New South Wales, welcoming the esteemed Lisa Morell into our fold. Whether Social Compass Group thrives or faces challenges along the way (though I certainly prefer the former!), one thing remains clear – I'm setting an example for my three-year-old daughter Emilia, demonstrating the importance of bravery, seizing opportunities, and embracing discomfort. So, on the eve of International Women’s Day, my deepest hope is that one day Emilia will look back and see that her mummy dared to push boundaries, took risks, and proved that anything is achievable. Happy International Women's Day! 🌸 Today is more than a celebration; it's a call to action. Inspired by yesterday's Accenture DACH International Women's Day, where we heard a lot of great insights about personal financial wellbeing, I'm taking steps provided by incredible Clara C., and I encourage you to do the same. I'm also focusing on my daughter's financial future by enrolling myself in a pocket money training, where I can learn how to organize it in a smart way. It's crucial to instill the value of money management early on. My key insight from the event: never underestimate the power of networking. It's not just about expanding your circle—it can lead to better job opportunities and, consequently, improve your financial wellbeing. Let's use our networks to propel each other forward. Here's what she had to say about working at ZA Registry Consortium and her favourite things about our country. #COZA30Years 1. How long have you been with #TeamZARC?  - 14+ years, started on 1 April 2010 - April Fools Day 😁 - It was meant to be my retirement plan but man was I mistaken 😂 2. What do you love most about your job and being part of #TeamZARC?  - I get to do everything that I love and this means that I am empowered every single day 3. What does Women's month mean to you? And how is ZARC empowering women in the space?  - Many of ZARC’s mid to senior management teams are headed by women, each bringing their own unique perspective on organisational things. ZARC conducts domain name system training annually, which is open to all and creates an access point for women to understand the magic of the domain name business at technical and business levels. I was one of few ladies that received domain name system training and, whilst I had no appetite to become a techie, it did enable me to understand the criticalness of the domain name system to the registry business and the economy at large 4. Favourite piece of tech or gadget?  - Love tech for all the creativity and innovation it can bring to business and our personal lives but I am so old school, still preferring handwritten notes to audio recordings and iPads for instance 5. Funniest/Best CO.ZA domain name you’ve seen in 30 years? 😉 - Has to be simla.co.za, sounds conceited but it's good to have your own connection with what you do, makes working so much more enjoyable. 14 years ago this domain was not available and now it is, so contemplating grabbing it! 6. Favourite travel destination in South Africa?  - Durban, home to my immediate family (love, laughter and loads of fun) as I am who I am because of them, strong foundations that continuously holds me in good stead 7. Favourite/best thing about living in Mzansi?  - Continuously reaffirms that the grass is not always greener on the other side and having travelled to many cities in the world, nothing beats the trip back to Mzansi. 8. Favourite South African food/dish?  - Trick question? 🤔 😂 Has to be curry, and I'm unapologetic for the bias shown. 9. Coffee or tea?  - Definitely not coffee, I don't need caffeine to jump start my day.  Have loads of passion for every part of my life, love to learn and meditation to calm my nerves in difficult or challenging situations. 10. Favourite South African sports team?  - Wish I could state one but then it would be a lie, so regrettably not. Does not make me any less of a South African 🇿🇦 11. Any advice for potential registrars or young entrepreneurs looking to get into the domain name space?  - It’s a numbers game and once you get the perfect blend of herbs and spices, metaphorically speaking, the rest will be history.

The last few years nearly all organizations - bigger or smaller - develop and promote strong business cases on the importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as an enabler for superior business performance as well as future sustainability. Yet very few can genuinely support that they are truly inclusive. We are not there yet! But, day by day we are working hard to become better at creating a more inclusive environment for all our people, by setting a clear strategy and working with our teams to co create the culture, adopt the behaviors and drive those initiatives that will eventually build inclusion by design and not by chance. A few days ago we, in #AthenianBrewery, got awarded with two important DEI Awards for 2024. We got the Gold Award 🥇 in the FMCG sector for our "DEI Strategy and Action Plans" and the Bronze Award 🥉 for the "Best Key Area Practices / Initiatives for Disabilities/Chronic Diseases". Today March 8, we are celebrating International Women’s Day to focus on equal rights for all regardless of gender, ethnicity, age and background. Yesterday Women in Life Science Denmark and DANISH BIO - DANSK BIOTEK kicked-off the Celebration by hosting a meeting on how to obtain Equity and Equal rights in the Life Science Industry. Key takes aways: 👉 The largest barrier for obtaining succes on the job market in Denmark is being a woman. This is the main conclusion from the new Kraka and Deloitte report. We need to look at the structural barriers for Women’s career opportunities. 👉 Medicines are mainly developed for men and women experience more side effects due to the lack of women in clinical trials. Women are not small men, we need much more health data on women. 👉 Diversity matters and increases profit and innovation. The lack of diversity in top management and board is a societal challenge which women and men need to solve together. We need to have the men more involved in the discussions. Women Empowerment: In essence It is moments like today’s that truly shape my understanding of life whilst providing big realisations. My Choti Naani (maternal grandmother), who is in her 60s, took her very first flight from Bangalore today. As we drove to the airport, I couldn’t help but reflect on the significance of this moment. Here was my Naani, embarking on her very first ‘flying experience’, while I, at just 20 years old, had already flown ‘solo’ across countries and continents. This moment wasn't just about a flight; it was about witnessing the incredible progress that has unfolded across generations. My Naani grew up in a time when solo travelling for women was restricted and rarely encouraged, much less imagined. Yet today, at 60, she steps out, making this experience happen for herself too. The contrast between our experiences isn’t just a reminder of how far we’ve come, but also of the growth made possible by the voices and efforts of countless men and women before us. In this moment, I realized that the generational gap is not just a divide, but a bridge—a bridge built on progress, perseverance, and the collective desire for a better future. We, the young independent men and women of today, stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. And just as they paved the way for us (in this case: my family), we now have the responsibility and the privilege to continue and improve that journey for future generations. If we've achieved this much in just three generations, imagine the world we can create for those yet to come. Let’s take a moment to appreciate this progress and be grateful for the opportunities we have. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗔 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 🌟 This week I had the privilege of attending a Women in Transport and Women in Public Affairs panel discussion on the challenges facing women working in transport public affairs and policy. Each woman’s career journey is unique, yet common themes of positive experiences and navigating challenges emerged. As a Resilience Building Coach, two key takeaways resonated with me: 1️⃣ 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗡𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱-𝗜𝘁-𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿: Keep a record of your achievements. This not only fosters a positive perspective during setbacks but also serves as evidence to advocate for yourself. 📂✨ 2️⃣ 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Don’t assume others recognise your full value. Be proactive in showcasing your accomplishments. 🏆🌐 Both highlight good practices in reinforcing your mental strength – one of the five key components of resilience. When setbacks occur, it’s easy to dwell on what went wrong.
