Another spectacular rail and transportation project underway by SOM's Transportation Architecture practice. We are seeing more of these important projects types worldwide as we migrate to public transportation - some places much slower than others. In Asia Pacific we are seeing an acceleration in urban large-scale mixed-use developments which are railway and transport orientated developments.

A closely watched project that will add more than 1,700 apartments to Jersey City’s booming Journal Square neighborhood is on the verge of two key construction milestones. Its developer, Kushner Cos., says the first phase of what’s known as One Journal Square is more than three months ahead of schedule and will top out by April, as crews complete the steel frame for the 64-story, 966-unit north tower. The firm at that point will also start vertical construction on the second phase, where plans call for another 757 units atop the podium that’s been built to support both structures. The development in Raynes Park in London Borough of Merton is presently under construction. The object was to intensify the land use from a single, two-storey, three bedroom 1,291sqft house to 3x, 3,273sqft houses each with four storeys (including a home cinema below ground) and five bedrooms. This represents a 760% uplift in development area.
