The Northern Territory Government is on a mission to redefine water resource management, a critical pillar in the pursuit of sustainability and community trust. In alignment with priority action 11 outlined in the Territory Water Plan, we're looking ahead to the next step will be to develop a model for reform. The current legislation, the Water Act 1992, has served as a sturdy foundation for water resource management. However, as we face unprecedented challenges posed by climate change and increasing competition for water, it's imperative that our legislative framework evolves to meet the demands of the future. The first phase in this journey towards legislative reform involves the development of a comprehensive model for reform, which will serve as our guiding document throughout the process. Drawing insights from the existing Water Act 1992, alongside community input and national policy frameworks, this model will delineate: - Elements of the current Act deemed effective and worth preserving for continuity. - Areas for enhancement through minor adjustments to improve efficacy. - Opportunities for significant changes or policy shifts to address emerging challenges. Crucially, this reform process is not a closed-door affair. Territorians from all walks of life will have a voice in shaping the future of our water management. Through representative peak bodies and broader public consultation avenues like Have Your Say, individuals and organisations alike will contribute to the dialogue, ensuring that diverse perspectives are heard and considered. As we embark on this transformative journey, we invite you to explore the Territory Water Plan on our website https://vist.ly/34tiu Together, let's pave the way for resilient and responsible water resource management in the Northern Territory. #WaterResourceManagement #TerritoryWaterPlan #Sustainability #ClimateResilience #CommunityEngagement #Governance

There are so many ways Government can improve water (and especially groundwater) management in this country. Transparency and scientific defensibility need to become the foundation of all decision making, rather than political persuasion or academic storytelling. It is only then that all stakeholders will develop meaningful understanding of how to achieve balance between water resource use/development, environmental sustainability/protection and cultural values

Micro domestic greywater reuse, great environmental impact in one hit.Helping to save the planet through water neutrality
Waterwise Policy Asks of the New Government - July 2024 We face a water deficit of at least 4800 million litres per day (Mld) if we want to have a healthy environment, secure water supplies and future growth. Over 50% of this deficit needs to be met by reducing our water demand with at least 1000 Mld relying on new government policy. Today Waterwise set out its top 6 water saving policy priorities for the new government – together they have potential to reduce water use by more than 2000 Mld: - Deliver the UK mandatory water efficiency label making it easy for people and businesses to choose more water efficient products - Urgently increase water saving ambition in Building Regulations for new development - Support the planned smart water meter roll-out in England - Update the Energy Performance Certificate to include water efficiency - Require very high water using businesses to report on their efforts to reduce water use - Require all buildings to be fitted with leak detection Read Waterwise full Policy Asks Document here https://lnkd.in/eAdv5-m5

Water quality projects need an estimated $630.1 billion nationwide over the next 20 years, according to the most recent Clean Watersheds Needs Survey (CWNS) conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency. A second study, the most recent Drinking Water Infrastructure Needs Survey and Assessment, found that water utilities nationwide will need to spend $625 billion over the next 20 years to fix, maintain, and improve the country’s water infrastructure. The two surveys together—one focused on wastewater and stormwater and the other on drinking water systems—indicate a total infrastructure funding deficit greater than $1.2 trillion over the next two decades.
