On Thursday last week, I had the pleasure of attending the British Water #WomeninWater conference and reception at the Etihad Stadium What a welcome from Lila Thompson MIEx (Grad) and Ian Thompson! Louise Beardmore from United Utilities gave a heartwarming talk about the realities of juggling the many hats that a significant proportion wear. Three key insights she gave included: 1) Understand intent. All so often we can misconstrue intentions and we should always take time to understand the intentions behind someone's actions and comments - it's very often meant in a positive way. 2) Make connections and friends. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Everyone brings something to the table and we all have our own strengths. 3) Support other people and be their cheerleader, especially women. I am a strong believer in supporting those around you. The strongest people will support, elevate and strengthen those around them and this will reflect within the team. Arianna Walker presented on boundaries and stress management. With witty anecdotes, Arianna really did hit home with her presentation. I shall endeavour to keep hold of my apples! Later on, Arianna also presented some striking facts on the menopause, which will affect 50% of the population at some point. I didn't realise nearly 1 million people had left their jobs due to the symptoms of perimenopause. The day followed up with a panel discussion, facilitated by Perminder Atwal from Xylem Water Solutions UK & Ireland, where Lila Thompson MIEx (Grad), Andrew Welsh, Ali Bevan and Sal Watson gave their own personal insights into the working world. One key take, was that imposter syndrome affects men as much as women! Thank you very much for everyone involved in making this day happen, including the many people behind the scenes, who I haven't got the names for. This was an event filled with humour, compassion and empathy. Also a big thank you to Simon Barton and Vasantha Samaranayake Binnies, for pushing me to attend my first conference.

Additionally, our members explored future priorities and potential initiatives for the group, such as addressing Schedule 3, examining international surface water management practices, and creating guidance and training materials.
