"I am grateful for the generosity in assisting the B.D. Lee Elementary School PE Program. To ensure a successful field day, the school used grant money to procure various supplies, including eggs and spoons for relay races, sponges for relay races, bands for three-legged races, sacks for sack relays, balloons for balloon relays, and throw and catch balls with rainbow tails," said Bradlee Cooper, B.D. Lee PE Coach. Whether it's in the classroom or out on the field, the Bright Ideas Grant dollars are being put to great use in our local Gaffney schools, and we're proud to help support our wonderful teachers and students!

When I started using outdoor and experiential education as my primary approach to teaching high school I immediately saw the changes in my students' faces, their body language, and how they navigated and interacted with the world. I could see and sense in their interactions with the world the shift in what we now call 'mindset'. Back in the day, people would ask me how I knew that what I was doing with these teens would be effective, long-lasting, and have an impact. In short, they asked, "What is the evidence?" Back then, my stock response was to say "Ask me in 10 years, then we will know how they are doing and how we did." Here are two personal stories that demonstrate the power of outdoor education to change lives. Last week, I saw a post (linked below) about OBCA staff member Roger Lopez and the critical role he plays as a lead instructor for Outward Bound California. His life journey is inspirational and out on course he is a role model for his students. It is not a coincidence that Roger is an alum of Get Out and Learn (getoutandlearn.org), a high school experiential and outdoor education program in the SFUSD. His experiences in that program offered him the chance to go on Outward Bound, which turned the outdoors into a lifetime career and put him on the pathway toward becoming an outstanding OBCA staff member. Similarly, Belynda Ray is an alum of GOAPe, a predecessor program to GOAL. Her success in that program led her to become an OBCA Pinnacles scholar and a life-changing experience in the wilderness. Today, decades later, Roger and Belynda continue to pay it forward to the next generation. The partnership between OBCA and community organizations give youth like Belynda and Roger the opportunity to go on life-changing experiences with Outward Bound California. None of this is possible without the scholarships OBCA offers. IT IS individual donations that make what seems financially impossible, possible. Yes, it was a previous generation of generous donors like you who changed Roger and Belynda's lives. Tomorrow (May 8th), we rappel to support the next generation of Rogers and Belyndas. Please join us with your financial support. It's worth it. https://lnkd.in/gMVc-mTU Roger's Journey with OBCA https://lnkd.in/gT34Rb9V

Sargon, thank you for personally delivering the books to Fischer Middle School too and supporting The Eastside Education Initiative (EEI). You were one of my first tech leaders at 23 and here we are over 25 years later … giving it back. Beautiful ❤️ Can we get more donors? One classroom at a time, one school at a time … How much? $220 for a classroom set of 35. That’s it 😍 so individuals and companies can all be part of this butterfly effect. Ps: grants ok too 🥰 I want books like this everywhere. Let’s prove that we can build demand backwards - that you the professional, that you a business sees value in HOPE books in schools. So by the time kids are out - we’ve shown them a job pathway option through story. Students need to see us to be us. 4000 books given for FREE to students in a year - for many their first book. We need to scale - if you have a way, reach out. Why so cheap? The cost to you the bookfairy donor is essentially cost but the impact - PRICELESS. ✨I’m aiming for impact✨ Thank you for all your support. Donate here or DM me https://lnkd.in/g2bqNpQ8 This many students get books with a classroom donation 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋 Also … Need chargers, battery packs from some really cool people, check out ZutBe.com Peace and love everyone ✌🏽❤️ #hope #books #nonprofit #education #motivation #jobs

These students' 101 reasons to read are OUR 101 reasons to give. The bright minds of Cozine Elementary School (plus two graduates from our Readers in Training program) share stories on why reading is important to them. Spread the Word Nevada is a children’s literacy nonprofit, 501 (C)(3) corporation, dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Nevada’s at-risk, low income communities. While developing a love of reading, these libraries promote future academic achievement and self-confidence, which impacts lifelong success. Since 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has distributed more than 7 million gently used and new books to more than 830,000 low-income youth in Nevada.

At Julia de Burgos Elementary, they're nurturing the next generation of thinkers and leaders. Located in Philadelphia’s Fairhill neighborhood, our students face economic barriers that can impact their confidence and learning experience. That’s why they have launched the Unity for Uniform campaign. A clean and proper uniform is about more than school policy—it’s about giving our 700+ students the confidence to focus on their education without worrying about their appearance. Why Donate? -Boost Confidence: A fresh uniform means a fresh start to every school day. -Reduce Stigma: No student should feel ‘less than’ because of their attire. -Foster Equity: Level the playing field so every student can shine. How YOU Can Make an Impact: -Donate: Your contribution can help a student attend school with pride. -Spread the Word: Share our mission with your friends and family. Donate today: https://lnkd.in/erDSvZty Join us in making a difference. Every child deserves to learn without barriers.

Kali, our Marketing and Outreach Manager, is participating in this year’s Leadership Carroll cohort, and one of the cohort’s projects this year is to support early literacy in our community! They are developing family literacy kits that will be given to new families at Tanner during July. In addition to the kits, the group also wants to generate support for the existing literacy programs in the county. According to Ferst Readers, 37% of children arrive at kindergarten without the skills necessary for lifetime learning. Not only that, but cognitive processes develop rapidly in the first few years of life. By age 3, roughly 85% of the brain is developed. However, traditional education takes place in grades K-12, which begins at age five. Please consider donating to Ferst Readers and the West Georgia Regional Library System's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program and help support early literacy in our community! Friends and Colleagues, As many of you know, I am a passionate Board Member for Dallas Pets Alive! One of the biggest fundraising events for us is TODAY, North Texas Giving Day. Our goal today is to raise $115,000 so we can continue our amazing life-saving work! If you’re looking to give back, please consider donating to Dallas Pets Alive. Every bit helps and makes a big impact! ❤️ Thank you for your support! 🙏 https://lnkd.in/gsZdDbjw More about Dallas Pets Alive: Your support during North Texas Giving Day is not just a donation; it's a lifeline. Every gift you make goes directly to programs that are transforming the lives of animals and their humans. Our Foster and Adoption program is a beacon of hope for the most at-risk animals in our partner shelters, while our preventative programs—like PASS, Dogs Matter, and Bark Dorm—work tirelessly to keep pets out of shelters and in loving homes. These initiatives are not just about rescue; they're about building healthier, stronger communities where animals and people thrive together. The need is urgent. Many of the pets that come into our care have medical conditions so severe that shelters simply can't provide the care they need. Over a third of the animals we help are Major Medical Cases, requiring $1,000 or more in medical expenses. In 2023 alone, we spent more than $400,000 on treatments ranging from basic vaccinations to heartworm treatment and life-saving surgeries. This year, as we've taken on the incredible work of Dogs Matter and face the overwhelming overcrowding in North Texas shelters, the number of animals in our care has more than doubled. For the first time, we have more than 500 animals relying on our programs. While we've made strides in fundraising, the financial demands have outpaced our resources.
Every year, amazing supporters like you come together for Dallas Pets Alive on North Texas Giving Day. Your contributions are indispensable; they fuel our ability rescue animals and transform lives. We need your support now more than ever! This is our Excutive Director, Leslie Sans with one of our adoptable dogs, Sparkles, to remind you that you have the power to save lives. There is no donation too small — every little bit makes a world of difference to a pet in need. https://lnkd.in/dkrKMr2G https://lnkd.in/gGBFxgpw
Happy North Texas Giving Day!
