🌟 Exciting News from WISTA Australia! 🚢 We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new leadership program, designed to empower and support emerging leaders in the maritime industry. Over the next three years, WISTA Australia intends to put through 120 women from around the country on this course, with sessions happening twice a year in different states. The first session will be held in Sydney on 25 June – International Day for the Seafarer, with a commitment to hold two training sessions per year in capital cities around the country. The following course will be held in Fremantle on the 26th of September World Maritime Day. Thanks to the generous support of Svitzer Australia, our inaugural education partner, the training course itself will be at no cost to participants. We are also thrilled to announce that Eleanor Shakiba from Think Learn Succeed will be facilitating the course. Eleanor is an impressive leadership coach and teacher, she will be bringing her expertise and passion for leadership development in the maritime industry to our participants. To all the managers and senior leaders out there in our industry, we would really like you all to give some thought to some good candidates or potential candidates and encourage them to apply. One thing we know is that women, particularly at earlier stages of their career, don’t have the same confidence as men or necessarily nominate themselves as leaders. Your role is really important here to help overcome some of that imposter syndrome and support them in getting out of their comfort zone. For more details watch the message from our WISTA Australia President Monika Lemajic below Look forward to seeing everyone’s applications and please click on the link with this post below to learn more on how to submit https://lnkd.in/gM7rmij7 #WISTA #WISTAAUSTRALIA #UNSDG#5 #LeadershipDevelopment #MaritimeIndustry #EmpoweringLeaders #WomenInLeadership #IDWiM #womeninmaritime #womenwhomovetheworld

Women constitute a significant portion of Africa's population, yet their representation in leadership positions remains disproportionally low, and therefore their full potential remains largely untapped in African countries. Despite significant progress in recent years, women in Africa continue to face barriers to achieving leadership positions, including cultural norms, limited access to education and resources, and systemic gender biases, thus undermining women's ability to practice transformational leadership. Transformational leadership has become one of the most popular approaches due to its positive impact on achieving notable outcomes. Being a delegate in this year's Women’s Leadership Forum (WLF) on “Fostering transformative women’s leadership in Africa’’ has been a great experience. indeed, self-awareness is very important because transformational leadership starts with self-transformation.

Supporting initiatives that elevate First Nations voices is crucial to building a more inclusive and representative leadership landscape across Australia. We’re particularly encouraged by the launch of the Beediyar Aboriginal Leadership Programme from AIM WA, which aims to bring Aboriginal leaders into executive roles across both the public and private sectors here in Western Australia. This programme provides a platform for First Nations leadership and recognises the unique perspectives and invaluable insights these leaders bring to the table. At Proudback - Your gateway to extraordinary off-road adventures in Western Australia outback , we deeply value cultural heritage and authentic storytelling. Our tours give travellers the opportunity to connect with the land and its people, building a genuine understanding and respect for Australia’s Indigenous heritage. It’s inspiring to see programmes like Beediyar that empower Indigenous voices and support the cultural richness that makes Western Australia so unique. Inclusive organisations outperform non-inclusive ones in terms of creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. Why? It's because diverse perspectives can flourish that challenge the status quo. This has a knock-on impact in delivering more comprehensive solutions that create competitive advantage. For individuals, an inclusive culture provides a space where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents. The Culture Ministry has a range of offerings to develop inclusive leadership skills in your organisation. https://lnkd.in/g6EMAGrS

Who are the next generation of local leaders in Queensland? 🌟 Meet some of our Young Councillor Cohort (YCC), an LGAQ program that is nurturing the next wave of leaders in Queensland local government. We’re not just building a program; we’re creating a statewide community of young councillors with the goal of attracting, retaining and supporting them on their leadership journey. 🚀 Through the YCC, these young leaders gain access to a dedicated support network, including mentorship from seasoned councillors and mayors, tailored workshops and regular opportunities to connect with and learn from their peers across the state. The future of our communities is in good hands, but we must continue to equip every leader with the tools to succeed. 🌱💪 Our sector requires a diverse range of experts to thrive— from engineering and planning to policy-making, disaster management, sport and recreation, culture, tourism, finance and more. It’s crucial we attract young leaders across all these fields. So tell us: what can we do to inspire the next cohort(s) to step up for council leadership? If you're a young leader, what are you doing and seeing that excites you about the future of local government? #LGAQ #YoungLeaders #LocalGovernment #Queensland Aurukun Shire Council Brisbane City Council Cairns Regional Council CARPENTARIA SHIRE COUNCIL Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council Cloncurry Shire Council City of Gold Coast Fraser Coast Regional Council Hope Vale Aboriginal Shire Council Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council Lockyer Valley Regional Council Logan City Council Mackay Regional Council Somerset Regional Council Southern Downs Regional Council Sunshine Coast Council Torres Shire Council Torres Strait Island Regional Council Townsville City Council Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire Council

Social Impact Capital Australia's Kirsty Rourke was delighted to speak at Liquid Leadership's QLD Women in Leadership Summit on a panel discussing the important topic: "People, culture, and development - Building high-performing, diverse teams". Culture is the backbone of any high-performing team. During the discussion, the panel explored key strategies to build diverse and innovative teams, including: ✅ Fostering open communication ✅ Celebrating diverse skill sets ✅ Encouraging inclusive recruitment practices ✅ Embracing our responsibilities as leaders to nurture professional growth It was fantastic to share the stage with inspiring leaders – Trudy Fraser, Megan Vorster, Monica D'Souza [MAppFin, FGIA] ans Liz Van Vliet, and to hear their insights on leading large, diverse teams that have withstood adversity; setting boundaries, so that leaders can effectively show up for their team; managing global businesses that embrace all forms of diversity; and, our favourite, the importance of establishing a clear purpose for the organisation.
