𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞: 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 In the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare, the role of nurses transcends traditional boundaries. It’s time we redefine and customize the scope of nursing practice to reflect the critical thinkers and clinical reasoners that nurses inherently are. 🩺 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞: The essence of nursing is not just in the tasks performed but in the judgment applied and the decisions made. By tailoring the scope of practice, we ensure that nurses are not just following protocols, but are actively engaging with their work, making informed decisions, and advocating for patient care that resonates with their nursing identity. 🤔 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠: Critical thinking is the fuel that powers clinical reasoning. It’s about looking beyond the obvious, questioning the status quo, and synthesizing information to form a holistic view of the patient’s needs. It’s a skill that is honed through experience, reflection, and a deep understanding of the human condition. 🔍 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Clinical reasoning is the pathway through which critical thinking manifests into actions. It’s an analytical process that helps nurses make sense of complex situations, anticipate potential complications, and implement interventions that are evidence-based and patient-centered. 🌟 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲: At the core of these competencies lies the nursing identity - a blend of compassion, empathy, and resilience. It’s what makes a nurse not just a healthcare professional, but a trusted ally in the patient’s journey towards health. ➡️Let’s champion a practice environment where nurses are empowered to use their full potential, where their expertise is recognized, and their contributions valued. 🌟 The Per-Diem Advantage in Nursing 🌟 In the dynamic realm of healthcare, per-diem nursing emerges as a beacon of flexibility and opportunity, offering a myriad of benefits for nurses seeking a unique and rewarding career path. Per-diem work, or PRN (Pro Re Nata), lets nurses work as needed, providing unparalleled flexibility and autonomy. 🕰️ One of the primary perks of per-diem nursing is the freedom it brings to scheduling. Nurses choosing per-diem positions can decide when and where they work, fostering a healthier work-life balance. This flexibility is particularly advantageous for those with personal commitments or those exploring diverse clinical settings, allowing nurses to design a schedule aligned with their lifestyle, reducing burnout, and enhancing overall job satisfaction. 🌐 Per-diem nursing also opens doors to career diversification. Nurses can immerse themselves in different specialties, healthcare facilities, and patient populations, enriching their skill set and expanding their professional horizons. This adaptability not only boosts clinical expertise but also cultivates resilience and adaptability in the ever-evolving healthcare industry. 💰 Financially, per-diem nurses often enjoy higher hourly rates than their full-time counterparts. While they may miss out on traditional benefits like health insurance or paid time off, the increased pay compensates for these differences. This financial flexibility is particularly beneficial for those seeking supplemental income or navigating transitional phases in their careers. 🎯 Per-diem work empowers nurses to maintain greater control over their professional lives. They can select assignments aligning with their interests, allowing them to stay engaged and passionate about their work. The reduced administrative responsibilities associated with full-time positions mean more time for direct patient care, contributing to job satisfaction. 🔍 Lastly, per-diem nursing offers a surplus of benefits from flexible scheduling to career diversification and financial advantages. It provides nurses with the autonomy to shape their careers in alignment with individual needs and goals. As the healthcare landscape evolves, per-diem work stands out as a valuable and empowering option for nurses seeking a fulfilling and sustainable career. #nurses #nursing #nursesonlinkedin #healthcare #linkedin #india

Should the #AINurse be #regulated, #credentialed and #licensed? Let’s talking about #Nursing today. Today, to be a “#Nurse” - one must go to nursing school at an accredited nursing program, pay to take the NCLEX, pass and then pay the State in which they want to practice a License fee. The title of “nurse” is legally protected in many States - many people have gone to jail for falsely identifying as a nurse. A nursing license must be renewed and paid for every 2 years. The nurse must also complete and pay for continuing education units to meet the requirements for clinical license. A nurse can only practice within the State(s) in which they have a license. To practice a nurse must undergo a strict credentialing process - which is different in all 50 States and different in all healthcare settings (from hospitals to nursing homes to home care) in which to meet the guidelines to actually practice. This credentialing process includes things such as background checks, fingerprints, specific clinical and competency based testing, physical health exams, drug screening, certifications such as BLS, CPR, ACLS ext. Every year, nurses must have annual reviews of their performance, ext. Depending on where a nurse went to nursing school - the total cost to achieve the designation of a nurse is somewhere between $15,000 for an LPN and as high as $300,000 for a BSN. So let’s talk about the #AINurse. #GenerativeAI the AINurse will have no problem learning how to pass the NCLEX or any exam…their ability to process large amounts of data and optimize it will be unparalleled to human capability. **This will not be unique to just nurses - but lawyers, doctors, teachers, engineers, bankers - and let’s assume - CEOs - executive leadership, ext (a topic for another day). There will be minimal cost to use AINurses - but will take billions of dollars of investment to build AINurses. Should AINurses be allowed to forgo the credentialing and licensing requirements of todays nurses? Should regular nurses be able in the future to forgo nursing school if they can pass the NCLEX? Who will drive quality control of data? Will we allow the industry to self regulate? Can AINurses practice across State guidelines? Who is going to credential that the AINurse is qualified? And if mistakes are made - who is ultimately responsible? I’d love to know your thoughts. #NursesOnLinkedIn #HealthcareOnLinkedIn

The nursing profession is in a unique and potentially powerful position to “lean in” to the paradigm shifting and disruptive wave that GenerativeAI promises. Instead of viewing GenAI or “NurseBots” as replacements for licensed nurses; we should chart the course where GenAI enables Nursing to be run by Nurses. Nursing should utilize the Knowledge, Skills and Documentation- Validation (KSD-V) Framework (Trademark) and leverage GenAI to: 1) Identify and redesign nursing workflows using a stepwise approach. 2) Optimize workflows to eliminate redundancy and “legacy” tasks, actions, and documentation. 3) Automate the workflows by outsourcing “hands off” tasks, actions and documentation to GenAI trained program. This would enable bedside nurses to be Bedside and to drive the nursing process to embody Art & Science that is at the core of our profession. #Bringiton #nurseAI #KSD-V

Nurse AI will be able to do the job of the CNA, the RN and the MD. It will take vital signs, answer your call bell, call the doctor with the most pertinent information or the CAT and as it writes the EHR notes automatically. It will follow all protocols to the "T" and will not require sleep. It will be able to handle a 10:1 patient ratio and will have support equipment in rooms to help patients that need assistance get to the rest room while it checks someone else's BG levels. It will however lack the human touch and true empathy. I wrote about Robot RN: Is it really that Far-fetched in 2014, I envisioned a Robot performing our duties, but I thought doctors would be replaced before Nurses. https://lnkd.in/gJA-cf93 Now, advent of AI as a healthcare tool, there is no telling what corporations will do first and which countries will take the lead. Professor Rozzano C. Locsin read my article and in 2017 wrote about how Japan had moving in that direction in order to care for the elderly. He divided the technologies as Technology as a completer of human beings, instruments and gadgets to enhance care and technologies that mimic human beings (Locsin, 2017) .

As we continue to marvel at the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, it's undeniable that AI can process and analyze data at speeds no human can match. Yet, is an #AINurse capable of mastering the art of soft skills? Skills such as reading the room's tone, understanding non-verbal cues, and more importantly, demonstrating empathy and compassion—are these within the realm of #AI? The question isn't just about whether AI can mimic these behaviors, but whether such attempts at empathy and compassion will ever feel genuine. Can an AI bot offer a heartfelt handhold or a comforting touch on the shoulder in times of need? These gestures, simple yet profoundly impactful, embody the essence of human connection and care. We, as humans, possess an innate ability to feel, connect, and share our energy with others. This capacity for emotional and physical support plays a crucial role in #nursing, especially for those who are vulnerable. Our ability to empathize, care, and physically comfort one another is not just unique but indispensable, especially in providing care to those in need. As we embrace technological advancements, it’s important to recognize the shortcomings that #ai can have. If in 40 years you were being cared for by a #ainurse while you were facing life threatening medical problems, how would you feel? Would you feel like you could connect and feel safe and secure? Would you feel like you could ask hard questions and get genuine feedback? This may change as things develop but curious what your thoughts would be today? 👇💡 #nursesoflinkedin #healthcare #nurse #telehealth

The progress of AI in our healthcare system raises numerous questions, reflecting its significant potential benefits and serious risks. If we don't carefully examine this mix, it could lead to disastrous outcomes. We must prioritize improving lifestyles over financial gains. By focusing on making ethical decisions, money will naturally follow. I believe AI should enhance, not replace, the work of nurses, at least not until we fully understand AI and its implications. Interesting moments… let’s be involved and keep the human vision people. Otherwise, it’ll be took late and we’ll all suffer from this mess.

I've been feeling this to my core lately. #Nursing is at a critical point that will make or break the #sustainability of our profession. It's time for us to shout what we know is true from the rooftops! ⭐ We don't have a nursing #shortage. However, we have an abundance of nurses unwilling to work in the current climate of direct #patient care. ⭐ We can't #train, #hire, or "pizza party" our way out of the problem. ⭐ We need foundational changes that help create stability for the future like: 🌟🌟🌟 Modernizing the #reimbursement structure for #nurses across all healthcare delivery systems. Commission for Nurse Reimbursement 🌟🌟🌟Recognizing nursing as an academic and professional discipline to unlock millions of dollars and accelerate the growth of the #workforce. Nursing Is STEM 🌟🌟🌟Creating sustainable training and resources for nurses to help them meet their highest professional aspirations and support them through times of #burnout. Nurses in Charge Inc So, let's not be silenced but join together in unity! #nursesonlinkedin #healthcareonlinkedin #thetimeisnow

I recently came across a very insightful report from Nurse.org named the 2023 State of Nursing Report. These insights resonate deeply with both the heart and nursing challenges. Let's see these numbers together. A Profession Cherished: A remarkable 60% of us hold fast to our love for nursing, a testament to the passion that fuels our daily endeavors. This love, however, is shadowed by a concern shared by 62% regarding the future of nursing. The Battle with Burnout: Despite some improvements since 2021, the specters of burnout, mental health struggles, and a pervasive sense of underappreciation continue to haunt us. A staggering 39% of nurses report job dissatisfaction, influenced by factors such as education level and specialty. The Looming Shadow of Shortage: Alarmingly, 91% perceive the nursing shortage as worsening, a sentiment echoed by 79% who feel the pinch of understaffing in their units. Yet, amidst these challenges, 55% witnessed a salary increase, though 75% still feel their compensation falls short of their worth. A Glimmer of Hope: The report, initially launched in 2022 and refreshed with insights from over 2,100 nurses in 2022, paints a picture of a profession at a crossroads. While the struggles are real and palpable, there's an underlying current of hope and resilience. The Core of Our Commitment: At the heart of our choice to become nurses is the desire to help others, a sentiment overwhelmingly shared. Yet, the journey is marred by uncertainties about the profession's future, with a divided sentiment on career satisfaction. A Shift in the Paradigm: The narrative of nursing is evolving, with more of us contemplating shifts within the profession or stepping away from bedside care. This shift is reflective of a broader quest for fulfillment and well-being. The Critical Issues at Hand: Our collective experience underscores critical areas needing attention - the dire nursing shortage, the quest for better pay, and the imperative for improved working conditions. In sharing these insights, I hope to spark a dialogue that transcends mere statistics and touches on why we chose this path. The report doesn't just offer a mirror to our current state but also invites us to ponder the possibilities that lie ahead. Your thoughts? #nurses #nursesonlinkedin #nursing #themindsetnurse #HealthcareonLinkedIn #linkedin #futureofhealthcare
