Why It Matters
There is so much to celebrate during #pridemonth, but this achievement is at the top of my list this year. I couldn't be more proud of my friend, Christopher O'Connor, who has spearheaded the efforts to get this much needed affordable housing project funded and approved. This building is going to change the lives of LGBTQ+ seniors in Maine by providing them with a safe, accessible, and convenient place to call home. I can't wait to see what other wonderful things this month brings. For any of my connections attending Brunswick Pride this weekend, please stop by the ECC booth so that I can tell you about this exciting project and the other impactful work ECC is doing. Happy #pride, everyone! 🌈

Howard County Public School System's LGBTQIA+ Initiatives Specialist Danielle DuPuis had no funding to host a third year of their county-wide Rainbow Conference. then, they found a grant opportunity through It Gets Better's 50 States. 50 Grants. 5000 Voices. And the rest... was an incredible opportunity for LGBTQ+ students! Read the story, and apply for a grant for your school at www.50states50grants.com. "I remember the day I first learned about the It Gets Better grant opportunity — it was like seeing a rainbow after a storm. I had been brainstorming ways our school could possibly hold onto our county-wide Rainbow Conference for a third year — with no funding in the bank. I had previously searched for LGBTQ+ grant funding, and the prospects were bleak. Finding an organization dedicated to funding LGBTQ+ inclusive projects was a dream come true. It was the hope I needed to encourage and inspire my students to try our hand at applying for grant funding. I had recently worked with Matthew, a high school junior, on accessing research articles about support for LGBTQ+ youth in schools. Since I knew they had an interest, I reached back out to them and together we worked on the grant to see if we could fund the conference. We were SO excited when we were chosen! All throughout Matthew's senior year, we plotted, planned, and spent our funds to put on a hybrid conference for our community. The financial support from this grant freed up our time to find sponsors and donors and allowed us to concentrate on making our conference the best it could possibly be — and that included compensating our LGBTQIA+ presenters for their time and expertise. We received tons of positive feedback from our event — most notably, that it provided a safe, affirming, educational experience for everyone who attended. The 50 States. 50 Grants. 5000 Voices program is an excellent opportunity for students and educators to work collaboratively to achieve a common goal. This grant funding allowed me to demonstrate my words of encouragement to my students through actions. Applications for the next series of It Gets Better grants are currently open for you and your students to apply! Talk with your students. What does your school need? What ideas do your students have? How can you make things better for LGBTQ+ students? You have until April 1, so apply TODAY. Good luck! #itgetsbetter #grants #education #inclusiveeducation #grantfunding #lgbtq

Over the past two years, we've awarded more than $1 million to schools across the United States, funding projects that uplift, empower, and support the well-being of local LGBTQ+ students. With the need to support LGBTQ+ youth more important than ever, we're doing it again.50 States, 50 Grants, 5000 Voices is back for a third year, and we want to make schools better for LGBTQ+ students. We know not all of you are educators... or LGBTQ+ students. But chances are if you're supporting our work, you know a teacher or an LGBTQ+ student. And that means we need your help. We can only award grant money if folks apply. We need you to send this email to anyone and everyone who might benefit from this grant money. Maybe it's to build a gender-affirming closet. Sponsor a school-wide Pride festival. Fill a library with LGBTQ+ inclusive books. The possibilities are ENDLESS. And if you happen to know someone in one of the following places — Alaska, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Washington D.C. — even better. This year there will be a special emphasis on prioritizing those states where projects have yet to be funded. Middle and high school students and teachers across the U.S., Washington DC, and U.S. territories can apply now through April 1. This year's grant opportunity is supported by AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS INC. and its customers, the MAC Cosmetics, and Tumblr. We can't wait to see those applications. Your Fairy Brandmother 🧚♀️ Branding with Fairy Magic 💅 Queer Creative in Business 🏳️🌈 Inclusive Brand Designer 🌈 Neurospicy 🌶️
YES, it's no longer Pride month but I'm still very Queer. And I'm not done sharing my 7 steps on creating an authentic Pride campaign for next year. If you care that you're seeing this after June 30th, I'm not the problem, you are... 😇🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ So, let's continue... Most LGBTQ+ people pride themselves on their acceptance and sense of community. 👉 What partnership work are you doing for the shared mission of LGBTQ+ inclusion? 👉 How are you collaborating with Queer & Trans educators, speakers, or creators? 👉 How are you giving back to the LGBTQ+ community? Example: I will discuss how an educational resource company (like Classroom Secrets) that creates teaching resources for primary school children may approach a Pride Campaign. 💎 What partnership work are you doing for LGBTQ+ inclusion? The Rainbow Flag Awards: These champions of LGBTQ+ inclusion in education are a natural fit! We're partnering with them on a Pride giveaway and potentially supporting their important work through future promotions. LGBTQ+-owned merchandise businesses: We believe in celebrating and supporting diverse voices. By partnering with LGBTQ+-owned businesses for our Pride giveaway, we can showcase their products and give back to the community. Long-term partnerships: nurturing relationships with Stonewall, OutBritain, Pop’N’Olly (LGBTQ+ resources for Primary Schools), The Proud Trust, NASUWT Teachers’ Union, LGBT Education Scotland, LGBT Youth, National Educational Union, JustLikeUs 🤝 What LGBTQ+ collaboration work are we doing? Content creation: We're partnering with LGBTQ+ experts to develop informative and engaging content about LGBTQ+ identities, history, and experiences. Surveys and feedback: We value the experiences of LGBTQ+ educators. By collaborating on surveys, we can gain valuable insights into the challenges and use that knowledge to create better content and resources. Guest appearances: We invite LGBTQ+ educators, parents, and creators to share their stories on our platforms. Their perspectives raise awareness and help us build stronger connections with the LGBTQ+ community. 🫴 How are we giving back to the LGBTQ+ community? Financial support: Funding giveaways and supporting LGBTQ+-owned businesses. Through blog affiliate links, we will donate to LGBTQ+ charities: Stonewall, LGBT Foundation, Mermaids, and JustLikeUs. Educational resources: We're dedicated to creating inclusive educational materials representing LGBTQ+ identities and experiences. (Future partnership with Pop’N’Olly to elevate LGBTQ+ education company) Advocacy: Our voice matters! We're using our platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, elevate voices, and address issues within the education industry. Community building: We want to create a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ educators. We aim to create a strong sense of belonging through collaboration and open communication. #Business #Brand #Branding #Marketing #PrideMonth

Just finished reading a thought-provoking article on LGBTQ+ students' mental health in #schools. It's eye-opening how high-profile incidents and legislation impact their well-being, even if they're not directly involved. It's crucial we understand these ripple effects and take steps to support all #students. Let's foster inclusive environments where every student feels safe and valued. #k12 #equityineducation #equityandinclusion #lgbtq #educators #leaders #teachers

📣 Who are under-represented groups in higher education leadership? 🔊 🌟 What Do We Mean When We Use the Term "Under-Represented Groups"? 🌟 In the case of ULEAD4ALL, Under-represented groups refer to those who are less represented in higher education than they are in wider society. 🔈 These groups include: -Women -Ethnic minorities Religious minorities -LGBTQ+ -Non-nationals -Individuals with disabilities -Individuals from a lower socio-economic background and First-generation students. 🔔 The makeup of these groups can vary by country. For example, some countries may focus on including Indigenous populations or individuals with specific migration backgrounds (Buitendijk et al., 2019). ✨ This list is based on preliminary results from a workshop with ULEAD4ALL project partners and is not intended to be exhaustive. 📚 For more insights from interviewees on the challenges facing specific or intersecting under-represented groups, check out our synthesis report! The case of Nex Benedict shows that there is still a very real threat of violence to LGBTQ+ students in schools around the world. This is what we need to do to ensure that schools are safe places for all students: 1) Put resources into educating students about LGBTQ+ issues. 2) Update policies and procedures to protect everyone, such as the anti-bullying policy and the transgender and gender questioning policy. 3) Build links with LGBTQ+ organisations. 4) Improve immediate response for emergency situations.
