Shelterforce describes an interesting affordable housing model that combines the tools of a community land trust and a limited equity cooperative to reach deeper affordability. https://lnkd.in/gdDstGTK SACRAMENTO, CA — The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) today published California’s Housing Future 2040: The Next Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA). In this report, HCD recommends to legislators the changes to the RHNA process necessary to effectively plan for the homes that will be needed across the state by 2040.

Following a review we've conducted of the Government's Community Housing Fund (CHF), the findings highlight the positive impact it had in driving affordable community led housing projects across England. Key highlights include: > Over 4,200 homes developed or in the pipeline, with 913 already built or under construction. 90% of these homes are affordable, many in areas where traditional developers struggle to build. > Projects funded through the CHF were more likely to incorporate innovative housing models, like Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and self or custom-build options. > An impressive success rate, with only 5% of projects failing and a significant return on public investment—£2.70 of value for every £1 spent. This review demonstrates the importance of community led development and the role it can play to increase social housebuilding and diversify the housebuilding industry. SCACED Member Spotlight: The impact of Southeastern Housing and Community Development's "Blight to Bright" program was recently profiled by The People Sentinel newspaper. The program, Blight Reduction Innovation to Generate Housing Transformation (BRIGHT), was developed by Southeastern Housing and Community Development to address blight in various municipalities also struggling with a lack of attainable housing. After the City of Barnwell approved the program late last year and initially funded the program with $100,000 of American Rescue Plan Act dollars, eleven properties have been addressed by the BRIGHT program with twenty-two more properties identified. Earlier this year Southeastern Housing and Community Development also received $150,000 grant from the Community Economic Development Fund (CED Fund), which SCACED administers as funds are available, doubling the funding for the BRIGHT program and also creating a small down payment/closing cost assistance program.
