Is it time to consider assisted living support for your loved one? Here are three signs to watch out for: 1️⃣ Struggling with Basic Tasks: Noticeable changes in their ability to manage daily activities like cooking, cleaning, or medication could signal the need for assistance. From relying on TV dinners to neglecting pet care, these challenges may indicate a need for additional support. 2️⃣ Decline in Home Maintenance: If you observe disarray and neglect in their living environment despite efforts to maintain it, it may be time to consider assisted living. Our community provides comprehensive care for those who require more support with daily tasks. 3️⃣ Financial Management Issues: Difficulty managing finances, accumulating past-due notices, or disorganization may indicate memory impairment or cognitive decline. Assisted living offers assistance and oversight to ensure their financial well-being. Transitioning to assisted living can be emotional, but prioritizing the safety and well-being of your aging loved one is crucial. Our vibrant community in Santa Clara, Utah, provides personalized care options and engaging activities to help them thrive. The never-retiring grandparents must retire Now a days grandparents don’t retire and have no time for their grandchildren. E-entertainment has taken the place of storytelling. It is believed that people accept ideas more readily when their minds are in story mode as opposed to analytical mindset. Roger Schank presents an interesting future scenario: The storyteller will be your computer. Computers will have built-in capability of understanding your needs, identifying the storyteller from the existing archive, and then delivering the story to you. In this age of change, I wish that both the grandchildren and grandparents will find time to communicate with each other. I hope the never-retiring grandparents will find time to retire. Let them find some time to tell stories to their young awe-eyed grandchildren.

This week marks the open access publication of our study on older adult movement speeds within Long Term Care Facilities. Led by Bronwyn Forrest and the team at University of Waterloo, our paper “Older Adult Stair and Walking Speeds from Controlled Trials as Inputs into Simulations of Retirement Home Evacuation” has been published in Collective Dynamics : https://lnkd.in/ehT_Bixr. As part of the study I completed the Pathfinder retirement home simulations (day and night scenarios with residents, visitors and staff as modelled occupants) which showed differences in predicted time to egress when inputs from this study are used relative to model defaults, demonstrating that ensuring model input parameters accurately represent segments of the older adult population is critical in rendering more realistic predicted egress outcomes.

Regulator turned Educator, author, teacher, coach and cheerleader for Using Regulations to Reject & Replace the Institution with Home & Normal Life - a new eResource series beginning with GUARDIANS OF NORMAL LIFE
Announcing a new eResource GUARDIANS OF NORMAL LIFE. Did you know? Living in a LTC home can be terrific. Three decades prove this but many are unaware. There are many simple practices that can be implemented in LTC homes that truly change culture and comply with regulations. Did you know? They in fact are supported by regulation. How do you view a nursing home or assisted living or memory care? Do you see it as the HOME it is or should be for the beautiful people who actually live there? Or do you view it as the professional workplace you worked hard to get to? This is a key shift we can each choose to make. Home, not homelike. Home, not facility. Community, not post acute. Where people live, not a care center. People don't live in centers, they live in homes. Regulations do not hold us back, they lead the way. Many people do not know this. Help me please to get this message out. Consider joining the army of guardians of normal life whoever you are, whatever your role. More if you're interested at www.edu-catering.com as well as the new eResource. Its an eResource because it is not a normal book that gets left on the shelf. Instead, it is an electronic PDF document sent to you and you are encouraged to make copies for your teammates. This is the only way we will change institutional culture. Each page stands alone as an info sheet and each practice is bolstered by regulation showing it can be done!
