The #CARECInstitute (CI) successfully held the inception meeting for the “Renewable Energy Investment Ecosystem in Central Asia” project, which is jointly funded by the Islamic Development Bank (#IsDB), the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), and the CI. This meeting marked a significant milestone in the project, which aims to assess and enhance the renewable energy investment landscape across Central Asia. Dr. Asif Razzaq, the Senior Research Specialist and project leader from the CAREC Institute, presented the project’s objectives and the proposed outline of the report. The report is structured into two key sections: the first focuses on the “Energy Investment Ecosystem,” identifying key drivers and challenges, while the second delves into operational issues, particularly those related to Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) and regulatory frameworks. Dr. Razzaq emphasized the importance of these pillars in shaping effective policy recommendations that can drive sustainable energy investments throughout the region. Dr. Ghulam Samad, the Chief of Research Division at the CAREC Institute, moderated the session, providing strategic guidance to the consultant team and highlighting the project’s critical expectations and broader significance for the future of energy in Central Asia.

🌍 Exciting News Alert! 🌍 More than 33 ministers and 100 high-level public sector officials from across Africa are gearing up for the 26th edition of the Africa Energy Forum in Barcelona from June 25-28! At AMDA, we're particularly excited about the potential opportunities for clean energy development on the continent. As private and public sector stakeholders prepare to spend almost a full half-day together behind closed doors, discussing the challenges facing both sides, we see this as a crucial opportunity for collaboration. This exchange will bring together ministers, heads of utilities, regulatory bodies, DFIs, private investors, and more, fostering vital discussions to establish an improved path for Africa's energy sector. Renewable energy capacity in Africa has nearly doubled in the last decade, but more investment is needed to meet the ambitious goals set at COP28. As an industry association, representing the minigrid sector, we recognize the pivotal role our industry plays in bringing reliable and sustainable energy solutions to underserved communities. That's why we're eager to join discussions at #aef24 on accelerating the pace and scale of energy projects in Africa. The existing system's lack of competition results in higher costs and limited choices for consumers, reducing overall service quality and stifling innovation and technological advancements. For instance, gas power plants can cost as much as 51.42 PKR per unit, while research and development opportunities remain underfunded, with only $10 million allocated, leading to reliance on makeshift solutions ("Jugaar") rather than sustainable innovations. On April 11th, Cenergy Holdings successfully participated at the Delphi Economic Forum IX. Alexandros Benos, CFO of Cenergy Holdings, stated during his speech at the panel discussion “Forging the Energy Transition Landscape: Navigating the road to 2030”: Today’s energy transition has nothing to do with what humanity has previously experienced: It is driven by policy, not technological or economic forces. It is a non-linear and “multidimensional” process that could only be accelerated through investment incentives, keeping its focus on fairness and equality. Greece cannot stay behind during this transition; it already leads the way in RES and should call on Europe to clarify such common goals and offer motivation to private sector investors. Moreover, he highlighted Cenergy Holdings' unique role in contributing to the Greek industrial sector by successfully executing projects globally and promoting the role of Greece as a regional energy hub. Concluding, Alexandros Benos affirmed Cenergy Holdings' commitment to a fair, balanced, and sustainable energy transition with a strategy that both promotes economic growth and protects the ecosystem. #CenergyHoldings #HellenicCables #CorinthPpieworks #EnergyTransition #Economicgrowth #EnergyGoals

The G7 declaration, adopted by the heads of state and governments yesterday at Borgo Egnazia, fully endorses projects such as #Medlink - see the following extract (page 18 of the declaration): “Furthermore, we strongly support the creation of new sustainable energy generation capacity in Africa and the Mediterranean to contribute to global decarbonization goals, in our common fight against climate change, as well as the development of greater interconnectivity to help reduce the cost of the energy transition. We encourage and actively support the acceleration of private investment, including through public-private partnerships, increasing Africa’s integration with the global energy market, in particular through the Mediterranean region.”
It was a pleasure to meet the #Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, alongside the Secretary of State Ouael Chouchene in Tunis yesterday, together with the Zhero team led by Filippo Rigoni and in the presence of the Italian Ambassador Alessandro Prunas. We discussed the progress of our #Medlink interconnector project, aimed at creating a closer #greenenergy partnership between North Africa and Europe which was at the center of the Tunisian Investment Forum organized by the Tunisian Investment Authority 🇹🇳 and DG Near 🇪🇺. We both share the view that renewables are not only a mean to accelerate #energytransition in Tunisia and North Africa but also a significant opportunity for jobs creation and economic development in the region.
