Today is International Day of Peace. This is a UN-sponsored day dedicated to strengthening the idea of peace through a day of cease-fires and non-violence. It can feel as though we as individuals are very helpless when it comes to peace on earth, with global conflicts and trouble and strife all over. But we can make a difference in our little corner of the world, and if we got enough of those corners, they can make a difference. Imagine being one Lego-brick in a giant build...each one may not look like much by itself, but each one builds on others and supports others, creating one big whole. So, doing our best to create our version of peace in our own areas can be vital. 'When I speak at events, I always ask the audience what do you value? Over the last few weeks, I have been asking myself do we value peace? We live in a world that only values things it can put a price on. But there is a difference between what is valuable and what has a price. What is most valuable to us often has no price but to live without those things carries an unbearable cost. The cost of loss of human life, the cost of families torn apart, the cost of injury and trauma, the cost of destruction, the long-term cost of poverty. No child should live in a war zone, no person should be without basic human needs, no one should have to suffer because of their religious beliefs and violence of any kind should not be tolerated. I hope you are as shocked as I do when realizing the story this banner tells. I am shocked and disappointed. The weight of a shattered promise, not just my parents', but a collective hope that our generation wouldn't know the horrors of war. We were raised on the dream of a peaceful life, where conflict wouldn't be the defining narrative of the Middle East and that we will not have to serve in the army. But here we are, facing a reality that feels crueller than any childhood aspirations. I was naive. It's okay to feel naive, to have held onto that glimmer of hope. It's a testament to my inherent desire for peace, a belief in the potential for humanity to learn and grow. Maybe disillusionment doesn't have to be the end of the road. I am fighting my self, trying to acknowledge the new reality and still choose to aspire for a better future. I am looking at this picture, allowing it to fuel my anger, fear, not my despair. I do my best to let it be a stark reminder of the cost of inaction, of the fragility of peace. Trying to channel that fear into action, into conversations with my children, into demanding better from our leaders, into supporting organizations and countries working tirelessly towards a peaceful resolution. We may not have the luxury of naivety anymore, but we can still be pragmatic and proactive. We can be the generation that finally breaks the cycle of violence, not through blind optimism, but through informed action and unwavering commitment. I am trying hard to keep this hope. Fairness and Equity: How do you Define it and Measure it? As westerner I can relate to fairness, justice. However, what does justice and fairness mean to other cultures and their way of living? As westerner, are we truthfully fair to way of believing and living which is different than us ? We have to careful in not using our own yardstick as measure of justice and fairness in the world.

This simple yet profound statement reminds us of the invaluable nature of inner tranquility. Peace, often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of life, is the cornerstone of our well-being. When we sacrifice our peace for the pursuit of material gains or external validation, we pay a steep price indeed. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the endless pursuit of success, wealth, or societal approval. But at what cost? Our mental and emotional health suffer, relationships strain, and happiness wanes. This aphorism serves as a gentle but vital reminder to prioritize our inner harmony above all else. When we make choices that protect our peace, we invest in our long-term happiness and fulfillment, ultimately realizing that true wealth lies in a tranquil heart and a peaceful mind.

When we think about ways in which we can resist white supremacy and all of the oppressive isms that plague our society, peace, rest, and healing aren't typically practices that come to mind.
