You've got 7 wonders of the world. 7 deadly sins. And me, celebrating 7 years with Luminous PR! Shocker – here are 7 things that might have surprised me along my journey... 1. 🙏 I was finally able to let down my walls to show my true vulnerable self. And the sky didn’t fall in, ‘Chicken Licken’. Picking the right time and right people is key to getting this right. I have never in my working life formed such a safe, trusting and respectful bond as I have with my partner in crime Kirsty Jarvis. She sits at the top of my gratitude list each and every day. 2. 😡 I have zero tolerance (maybe a bit of rage too) for Microsoft Teams. Gives me a twitch just thinking about it. 3. ✍ Communications folk are fecking smart and fearless and persistent AF. We take the most complex tech solution, digest it, chew it up and spit it out into accessible stories, getting them in front of the right people to help you achieve your goals. No tech is too tough for the Luminous crew to chew. Even me - that's a surprise too;) Though our head of editorial Jennifer Hood is the master! 4. 🍑 I get really grumpy if I don’t shift my butt during the work day - concentration levels, productivity, happiness, all down the plug hole. Yahdy yahdy yah - we’ve all heard it, prioritising your health makes a difference. Shouldn’t be a surprise. But when you finally ‘get it’ it’s like a slap in the face with an ice cold squid 🦑 5. 😞 This is a sad one… There’s way too many sub-standard PRs out there nowadays who have burned both clients and journalists alike. It makes everyone cautious, to the point that clients sometimes miss out on the real benefits PR can help them achieve. Not saying we're better than the rest, there’s always room for growth. - But we do work to standards and with integrity, transparency and honesty. - We do adhere to comms rules. - And we do deliver on our promise. 6. ⭐ Performing at the top of your game while going through perimenopause is really shit. And it’s not talked about enough. I’ve mentioned brain fog before on here. It’s real. It’s debilitating. And we don’t take a single day off, just ‘plough through’. Enough. Flexible working policies should allow you time and space to be both an outstanding player and a woman who is navigating change. 💪 Kudos to us at Luminous for taking flexibility seriously. 7. 😻 Tech Clients - with all your crazy, quirky, idiosyncratic ways and ideas - might drive us secretly round the twist, but boy, we LOVE it and you make it all worthwhile. Each and every client that comes to us comes armed with an idea, a story, passion, a promise of making positive differences. We are lucky to be invited along for part of the journey. Over the last few posts, we've looked at the elements of our newly refined brand, and today we reveal our Brand Purpose - the 'why' of what we do: 'Engineering Futures, Constructing Partnerships. At Sapphire Dairies Limited, our culture is built on a foundation of appreciation, camaraderie, and celebrating the achievements of our incredible team members. That's why we are thrilled to announce that we recently continued our tradition of celebrating the birthdays of our esteemed employees! The festivities were nothing short of spectacular, with a fantastic cake-cutting ceremony and delicious refreshments, from management to non-management staff. But we didn't stop there! How to take a BREAK in between focus periods of work? So that the brain really feels relaxed & charged up to focus again. By doing something that you love, it can be simply scribbling, sketching or drawing, singing a few lines of the favorite song (again, not to keep the brain in focus mode to remember the lyrics), dancing a bit & loosening up the body. 🎉 Today marks a truly special milestone: I'm celebrating my first-year anniversary at Mumble! 🎉 I don't usually share personal reflections like this, but today feels different: My journey with Mumble began as a significant turning point after a year filled with challenges and uncertainties. At 29, I found myself navigating through various obstacles, with work being one of the most prominent. Over the past year, I've gained profound insights, particularly by observing the distinct values upheld by Mumble's three founders. Despite their youth, they've displayed a wisdom and holistic vision that deeply resonated with me. Here are some key lessons I've gleaned from them, which I believe hold relevance and inspiration for many: ⭐ Being a WOMAN, and a MOTHER (especially a single mother), should never be an obstacle to one's career: support from the employer can make all the difference in ensuring both professional and personal success. ⭐ Valuing employees goes beyond mere compliance with regulations; it's about genuinely appreciating each individual's daily contributions, fostering a positive and empowering work environment. ⭐ Acknowledging the dedication and sacrifices made by employees who invest their time and efforts to propel the company forward, even though it may not be their own venture. ⭐ Genuine recognition and gratitude for employees' commitment and sacrifices are essential for fostering a culture of appreciation and loyalty. ⭐ Embracing collaboration and empathy within the workplace fosters a culture of success, far more impactful than promoting competition and individualism. ⭐ Each of us has unexpected potential for growth, and an environment like Mumble provides ongoing opportunities for development. ⭐ Remembering that employees are not just resources but individuals with lives beyond the office, where their holistic well-being should be prioritized and respected. ⭐ Every company should mirror Mumble's commitment to ensuring that sexism and disparities are eradicated from the workplace ⭐ Understanding that one's worth isn't determined by external factors like appearance, wealth, or being outgoing and well-dressed, but rather by the intrinsic value and contributions they bring to the table. (A truth that, despite being in 2024, isn't universally acknowledged). ⭐ Prioritizing the well-being of employees serves as the cornerstone for cultivating motivation and productivity in the workplace.
