Nobody likes to talk about the tough stuff. Like what do you do with an excellent employee who despite their competence commits crime in the workplace. How do we talk about internal theft? Some people post anonymously on platforms like Reddit and hope they will get some sage advice. Pretending that theft in the workplace is a dirty secret that can only be mentioned in an anonymous forum will never solve the problem. Good leaders address the issue. They discuss loss prevention strategies with employees, counterparts, and even competitors. Everyone benefits from positive, proactive loss prevention. This month, the Alliance of Beverage Licensees (ABLE BC) member magazine “The Quarterly Pour” published my article on safeguarding spirits - combatting external and internal theft from liquor stores and pubs. Please share your own thoughts and experiences in the comments.

Success Story: Patronscan Helps Slash Liquor Store Thefts! Hey everyone! I just had to share this amazing success story with you all. Remember when thefts at Winnipeg Liquor Marts were out of control? People were walking out with bottles like they owned the place, and it was putting employees and customers at serious risk. Well, those days are over, thanks to Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corporation inspired approach and by leveraging Patronscan's ID verification systems! Since we introduced controlled entrances where everyone has to show their ID before they can enter, the results have been incredible: 🔒 Thefts have dropped from a shocking 15,557 in 2019-2020 to just 1,212 in the last year. 🚫 Robberies have gone down from 226 to only 12! It's so rewarding to see how effective our system has been in creating a safer environment for everyone. Now, law-abiding customers can shop without worry, and employees feel more secure at work. A big shoutout to our awesome team and partners for making this happen. Your hard work is paying off in such a big way! Kyle Ross from the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union put it perfectly: “Thefts are no longer the norm and we’re very happy they are much more infrequent than they were. At least now our workers are not being injured or threatened on the job.” Here’s to keeping things safe and secure! 🥂 #Patronscan #SafetyFirst #Security #RetailSuccess #TeamWork #CommunitySafety #IVAC #Accesscontrol
