Former TFR/John Lewis flooring staff appeal for crowd-funding help A group of former John Lewis & Partners and the floor room employees have set up a crowd-funding appeal to raise money to compensate for missing redundancy payments and pay legal fees. The dozen former employees say they lost £135,000 of redundancy payments ‘we had rightfully earned’ following the collapse of The Floor Room, which operated John Lewis’ flooring concessions. ‘This financial loss has been devastating for many of us, especially those who had built their lives and families around the stability of their long-term employment. Some of us gave decades to John Lewis, and now we’re facing a bleak future without the security we were counting on. ‘We are seeking your support to help us cover the financial shortfall we’ve been left with due to this injustice. Your donations will be used to: support those who have lost significant redundancy payments; cover legal and administrative fees as we explore options to challenge this situation and provide financial relief for those who are struggling due to the sudden loss of income and savings they had counted on. ‘Any amount you can contribute would make a huge difference in helping us rebuild after this ordeal. We never imagined that after decades of loyalty and hard work, we would be left in such a vulnerable position. As the Eagles Ice Arena in Spokane celebrates its 50th anniversary, Avista is helping make sure the community ice rink stays around for another 50 years with energy-saving upgrades 💡 Support from Avista’s Commercial Lighting Rebate Program and Named Communities Investment Fund (NCIF) made it possible for the arena to install new LED lights inside and outside the building. The savings are significant. Not only did Avista’s programs cover nearly the entire project cost, but the upgrades will also lead to about $6,000 a year in savings on their energy bill. This means the ice arena can use the money they save to improve other parts of the nonprofit. Plus, LEDs last several years longer than the old fluorescent bulbs they replaced, requiring less maintenance. The lighting upgrade is just one part of the Eagles Ice Arena renovations. Where are traditional buyers purchasing a home in Philadelphia? Not in the same neighborhoods as investors and cash buyers. This The Pew Charitable Trusts analysis by Octavia Howell shows a side-by-side comparison of where traditional sales were from 2000-21 (about 60% of all sales) and where investor/cash purchases were. During this period, investors and cash buyers paid markedly less than traditional homebuyers---a median of $100,000 compared with $265,000. In 2021, 22% of homes in Philadelphia were purchases for $100,000 or less--more than 9-in-10 of those homes were bought by investors as cash buyers.
