Starting today (1 May), new houses and units in Queensland will need to meet the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022 Modern Homes residential energy efficiency standards. This is the first time in more than a decade that the NCC’s residential energy efficiency standards have been changed, and these updates will help to enhance the comfort of new homes for Queenslanders. New homes will now have a 7-star rating (out of 10) for the building shell (roof, walls, windows, and floors). Energy efficiency features that will help achieve a higher star rating include optimal house orientation, better insulation and window design, ceiling fans, and a lighter-coloured roof. These homes will also have a Whole of Home energy budget that promotes energy efficient appliances and equipment like air-conditioners, hot water systems and artificial lighting, as well as any on-site renewable energy like solar PV. It’s expected that these energy efficiency standards will help reduce Queensland’s emissions by 4.63 million tonnes and provide a yearly electricity saving of $185 per home, helping to ease cost-of-living pressures for homeowners. The Modern Homes standards mean that now, more than ever before, your home can be your forever home. From 1 October last year, accessibility standards began being phased in to ensure that Queenslanders can stay in their home throughout different life changes without the need to pay for expensive retrofitting costs. Find out more about the new standards here 👉🏾 https://lnkd.in/gdKUkNxs
