Healthcare Product Management | Diagnostics | Interoperability | Advisor to Hospitals, Startups, and VCs | Marathoner
For startups, investors, campfires, and aerobic metabolism: It's better to have oxygen than gasoline. Oxygen gives you time. Oxygen can scale with the needs of the business. Oxygen can sustain whole ecosystems and provides room for multiple winners within the same space. Having a sustainable fuel source that can last through an economic downturn describes a healthy business that is default alive and is able to act on the next great opportunity. It means that they won't fail their customers and patients when they need them most. And the gasoline won't be combustible anyway if there isn't oxygen available anyway from the legal / market environment. Jonathon Feit, this reminds me of our wonderful taco dinner and social last autumn in SF and how you had us pondering what success looks like when about half of all startups go under within 5 years. We have a unique responsibility to our customers in healthcare and you continue to keep your business and patients alive and well. Keep being you and I'll look forward to the next time I see you.

General Partner @ Venture Capital & Angel Investor | Seed-Stage European Origin US Focus High Growth Technology Startup Investor
The second episode of the FounderJourney Podcast by NuFund Venture Group (hosted by Guy Reams) is now live! 🎧 Fascinating conversation between an early investor, Dean Rosenberg and a founder Eugene Cho (Founder of Discover Echo Inc.) as they dive deep into their fundraising for building a successful startup. Some of the highlights - Discussion around the challenges of early stage funding for founders, including the development of Discover Echo and their success with angel investors and super angels. - Background in sales and the development of Discover Echo, a company that aims to build better microscopes than the current market leaders. - Eugene raised a couple million dollars from friends and family, had traction with micro VCs for a $5 million raise, but the deal fell apart, leading them to apply for and eventually win the TCA Quick Pitch competition in San Diego. _ Good discussion about differences between venture capitalists and micro VCs - Dean Rosenberg says he was impressed with Eugene's ability to engage with customers and extract money for value - Eugene discusses the value of receiving "smart money" from angel investors, who not only provide financial support but also offer advice and guidance in fundraising and business development. - Eugene and Dean worked together to secure funding for a series A round, initially aiming for $5 million but ultimately raising $7.5 million, while also forming a board, fulfilling orders, scaling up, hiring a team, and eventually expanding after securing the funding. - Good discussion around how early stage founders often give away too much equity too early, which can be difficult to get back and can lead to issues with incentivizing employees and retaining equity in the company. - Discover Echo experienced significant growth after Series A funding and attracted interest from venture capital, private equity, and strategic buyers at a conference, leading to potential offers. Love happy endings #FounderJourney #NuFund #Podcast #Startup #VentureCapital #Fundraising https://lnkd.in/gywESz6b

#GivingBackDecember #OnThatMorningWalk For some of you who follow me on Instagram, I tend to do 3-5 km most mornings as part of my exercise routine; and I always use the hashtag #OnThatMorningWalk listening to podcast episodes by Steven Bartlett or Spencer Lodge. As an entrepreneur and a startup founder, one goes through a lot of pressures daily and this impacts mental health. There aren't a lot of forums you can share your professional challenges with and get listened to with a view to encouraging or finding a collaborative solution. With that said, I am starting #OnThatMorningWalk in December 2023. I want to have conversations with 5 entrepreneurs or founders or C-level execs of startups that are at the pre-seed, seed, or pre-series A stage of their startup journey. This is a FREE informal walking and talking session where we will explore challenges like hiring, equity, mental health, establishing product market fit, fundraising, family pressures, finances, relocation, revenue etc. I'll share some of the experiences I have encountered with these and hopefully, we can encourage each other for the journey ahead. Please book you slot here - https://lnkd.in/dTR49wHi #startup #entrepreneur #mentalhealth #onthatmorningwalk
