At The Seattle Public Library Green Lake Branch, we exposed the new structural steel and integrated it with the historic architecture to create a visual dialogue between old and new. We designed the comprehensive seismic upgrade to meet above-standard safety performance during an earthquake so the library can serve as a disaster relief center for the surrounding community. What do you want to talk about? #Structural and #Civil Engineering. At DOCAN we have highly experienced Structural and Civil Engineers and #Designers who can work in multi-discipline teams, or can complete solely Structural/Civil projects. Our Engineers are Chartered with #ICE and the #IStrucE, and our Designers have significant experience in both Green and Brownfield projects. We use the most appropriate technology. #STAAD and #Teckla form the baseline, with other suitable technology helping - covering connections, and more specialist areas. If required, we can even use high end #FEA such as #ANSYS or #ABAQUS. Some recent projects - -Brownfield modification design and assessment of PetroChem site which required new structures designing to old building, and ensuring the old building remained safe. Supply of Assessment and Review and Detailing of Drawings -Greenfield design of a new structure supporting a large ducting system, including development of structural fabrication drawings including welded and bolted connections, as well as pad and raft foundations. Supply of full scope. -Greenfield design of new structure replacing old structure, requiring blank piece of paper, through to construction drawings, with all the required justification documentation. -3rd Party review of current build with new equipment being installed. Turns out the current roof was likely to collapse. Design modifications designed to enable future proving. As part of these projects, if surveying is required, we complete terrestrial scans using classical methods or laser scanning. #AISC360 #BS5950 #EC3 #staad #SAP2000 #tekla #leica #faro #greenfield #brownfield https://lnkd.in/etaFirJ2

A Structural Engineer’s Role in Preservation of Existing Buildings By David W. Cocke, S.E., F.SEI, F.ASCE, SEI Have you ever received a call from a developer asking you to take a look at an old building? Sometimes, they might ask if you could tell them that it’s not feasible to save it so that they can justify tearing it down. Other times, they might ask you whether it’s possible to restore it. We, as structural engineers, need to understand our role in scenarios like this. Let’s assume that a developer is looking to purchase a rundown building. They ask several questions about the building to make sure their project will be successful. They might ask the architect, “Can it be functional?” They might ask the mechanical engineer, “Can it be energy efficient?” They might ask their realtor, “Will it be marketable?” Finally, they might ask the structural engineer, “Can it be safe?” Often, developers are most nervous about the structure, and because of that, it turns out that the structural engineer can be the “deal breaker.” Continue reading: https://lnkd.in/gtBzsegG

🏗️ What Does a Structural Engineer Do? 🌉 Ever wondered who ensures the stability and safety of our buildings, bridges, and infrastructure? Meet the structural engineer! Structural engineers are the unsung heroes behind the scenes, responsible for designing and analyzing the framework that supports everything from skyscrapers to stadiums. They combine creativity with technical expertise to ensure that structures can withstand various forces, including gravity, wind, and earthquakes. Their key responsibilities include: Designing Structures: From initial concept to detailed plans, structural engineers create designs that meet safety standards while optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Analyzing Loads: They assess the forces that act upon structures and calculate how they will respond under different conditions, ensuring stability and durability. Collaborating with Architects and Contractors: Structural engineers work closely with architects and construction teams to turn design concepts into reality, providing technical insights and solutions throughout the building process. Ensuring Compliance: They adhere to building codes, regulations, and industry standards to guarantee that structures are safe and meet legal requirements. In essence, structural engineers play a vital role in shaping the world around us, making sure that the buildings and infrastructure we rely on are strong, resilient, and built to last. fire man, at fire safety organization top student in Ph.D. student in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structures Author of books on Civil and Architectural Engineering, Safety, and Firefighting
Based on the classification of building structures, which can be of importance in the design, control, supervision, and execution, it can be the group of buildings with commercial and congregational uses. In this regard, full coordination of civil, architectural, electrical, mechanical engineers, etc. can result in the extraction of a project with suitable quality.
